Horror Flix is the rap-rock creation of what once seemed like two unlikely artists. First, we have Mic Machete, a rapper who uses horror themes in many of his own songs. Then, add the Sweedish Pickles, a few oddball rockers with a knack for the unorthodox. Together, they are Horror Flix, a band that isn't afraid to break boundries and play the music they love.
Horror Flix on the genre of rap-rock:
"We won't lie; We believe that rap-rock is currently a weak genre. The lack of bands willing to come foward and release something truly innovative is disapointing. The genre itself may be waning, but as in every type of music, there are always those who step foward and work to release something people will remember. We can't say for ourselves that we are one of those bands. Only you can decide that. And as always, we hope you enjoy listening to our music as much as we enjoy playing it."
How did Horror Flix Start?
Brian and Phil have been friends since middle school, and were both founding members of Epik in 2004. After Epik broke up, Brian did a bit of work recording for other artists. His friend Gus came to record, and brought with him his partner, Mike Machete. This was when Brian first met Mike and realized his talent as a rapper. In 2005, (after listening to way too much Rage Against the Machine) Brian was trying to start up a rap-rock group, and Mike was his first choice as a vocalist. And with Brian in the band, Phil was practically obligated to join. The band went through many member changes, although Brian, Phil, and Mike remained constant. It was, in fact, the bassist spot that was particuarly difficult to fill. Matt, however, turned out to be the man for the job, and has been in Horror Flix since Spring 2007.
Musician Reviews of Horror Flix
"I wouldnt usually listen to rap, but this is good rap! I liked the way you combined live instruments such as drums guitar and bass with the rapping, i think the sound you make is really nice." - Elysium
"They have a good flow and great feel..They don't just talk about money, cars and clothes....which I give major props for. Job well done." - From the Ashes
"I enjoyed it. I don't usually listen to rap and or rap rock but I think this is done well. The lead can rap well (which is more than can be said for most of the crap on mtv). It was experimental, innovative and something I'd actually listen to. Keep it up" - Taken to the Sky
Note: If you comment us or add us, we will try to comment back when we can! I mean, we're not getting hit too hard with messages, (yet) so it's reasonable for us to do so. If by chance we don't, it's because we're all college students with jobs, and don't have time, or we just lost track of your profile, which does happen sometimes. Every fan is important to us, so we do promise to try!
