Knifeville is a record label created to document and support the Maniago music scene. Maniago is a small town in the Friuli region (north-east of Italy) renowned for being the City of Knives.
We started making records because we had enough of great bands writing great songs, not coming out of their rehearsal rooms in Maniago and always splitting without recording a thing. So far we've released five CDs (Arnoux, Nervous Kid, Ten Thousand Bees, Oliver, Le Corbusier) and a 7" single (Oslo).Besides promoting our stuff, we are very keen on bringing to the City of Knives artists we like.
Knifeville è un'associazione culturale nata con l'obiettivo di documentare ed espandere la scena musicale maniaghese. Maniago è un piccolo centro della pedemontana pordenonese, famoso per essere la Città dei Coltelli. Abbiamo deciso di iniziare a pubblicare dischi quando ci siamo stufati di sentire ottimi gruppi con ottime canzoni rimanere confinati nelle sale prove di Maniago e sciogliersi senza avere registrato niente. Così nella primavera 2003 abbiamo iniziato come etichetta pubblicando il 7" degli Oslo. Ci siamo poi costituiti associazione culturale: ad ottobre 2004 è uscito il cd dei Le Corbusier, ad aprile 2005 quello degli Oliver e a giugno 2006 Polar Days dei Ten Thousand Bees. A fine 2007 esce il disco dei Nervous Kid. 2008, è il turno di Arnoux, ovvero Fabio Arnosti, bassista dei Ten Thousand Bees, con Cascades, album di debutto.
Oltre ad esportare la musica che facciamo a Maniago, è nostra intenzione importare nella Città dei Coltelli le cose che ascoltiamo e che amiamo. Finora abbiamo avuto il piacere di ospitare Chris Leo, Califone, SJ Esau, Bob Corn, Chris Brokaw, Sprinzi, Threatcon Charlie, Olek, Fine Before You Came, September 10th, Chevreuil, FR Luzzi, Amy Blaunstein, Nedelle, Marzipan Marzipan, Rough Bunnies, Le Man Avec Les Lunettes, Deuxieme Sexe, The Ian Fays, Nervous Kid, G.I. Joe, With Love, The Lucksmiths, Numero 6, Enrico Berto, Stop the Wheel, Comaneci, The Zebras, My Awesome Mixtape, Father Murphy, Musica da Cucina, Owen, City On Film, A Classic Education, Fanfarlo, The Brunettes, Cameramia, Le Luci della Centrale Elettrica, Lawrence Arabia, Kid Weird & the Combos, I Treni all'Alba, Eterea Postbong Band, Altro.
Knifeville si interessa anche ad altre forme di espressione artistica: abbiamo organizzato due mostre fotografiche: una di 500 polaroid di Maniago ("trasformate" poi in copertina del disco dei Le Corbusier) e una personale di Olivier Cimenti (il cui catalogo è il booklet del disco degli Oliver).
