Jody Watley: Jazz Cafe - London, 12 January - A Night To Remember!!

About Me

Thanks for stopping by. It's SO refreshing when potential friends actually **READ** my profile BEFORE clicking the "Add To Friends" button. I just thought I'd share that!! Well, I'm a friendly, sociable and down to earth guy from the south east of England. However, I'm more of a world citizen, as I've had the travel bug since my school days. Yep, I love travelling as often as possible. I lived in Japan for 2 years (1999-2001) and it was one of the most amazing life experiences.I enjoy the simple pleasures of life, such as spending time with family & friends, conversation and good food. Friendship is very important to me, and I try my best to support the friends I have as best as I can.I like having fun, too - you'll find me on the biggest and scariest rides at theme parks! I guess I'm something of an adrenalin junkie!I'm not into drama/head games or putting others down with vitriolic comments - life's too short for that sort of nonsense. One of my dreams is to opt out of the corporate rat race, do my own thing and live my life at a more leisurely pace in more sunnier climes. Let's see: Spain, Bermuda or Mustique would be nice. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to achieve this, but I'll work something out!**PLEASE READ THE "I'D LIKE TO MEET" SECTION!!**

My Interests

I have a passion for travelling: I've visited various countries in Europe, the USA, Asia and several islands in the Caribbean. There are so many other countries that I'd like to explore, such as Bermuda, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Zambia. In other words, I want to go on a round-the-world tour!I also love my music, writing short stories and travelogues, and cooking (when I feel inspired to do so). There's nothing better than good food and good company to share it with. I never tire of learning new things. Self-development is important to me. I want to grab all of the opportunities that life has to offer.

I'd like to meet:

Anyone sane, really - lol!I'd like to connect with people who are positive about life, and those who appreciate genuine friendship. Having something to say is a plus! ***PLEASE*** send a message introducing yourself ***BEFORE*** sending an "Add to Friends" request. Requests will NOT be accepted without introductory emails. A little courtesy is all I'm asking for.

Music:

It's an eclectic mix of RnB (especially those 80s old school grooves), 80s pop, jazz/blues, etc. Favourite artists include: Jody Watley, Shalamar (the Howard, Jeffrey, Jody line up), Oleta Adams, Diana Ross, Anita Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, Luther Vandross, Alexander O' Neal, George Benson, Keith Sweat, Peter Cetera, Chicago, Steve Winwood, Jessye Norman, Wet Wet Wet, The Corrs, UB40, Destiny's Child, Mary Mary, Gabrielle, Brandy, etc, etc!!

Movies:

I'm into classic Hollywood movies at the moment. "Imitation of Life" (the original 1934 version) features a rare appearance by the beautiful, but mostly forgotten Fredi Washington.I also like "Cabin in the Sky", "Stormy Weather" (awesome dance routines), and "Lady Sings the Blues".As for modern movies: I've been a big fan of dinosaur movies since my childhood, so I'd have to include the Jurrasic Park trilogy.Other movies include "Rush Hour 1&2", "Mission Impossible", "The Mummy/Mummy Returns", "Godzilla", "The Negotiator", "Speed", "The Matrix", etc.

Television:

Don't watch a lot of it these days. I can't stand those inept reality shows. However, I can't resist "Two and a Half Men" and "NCIS"

Books:

I read 2 great self-help books earlier this year: "Screw It, Let's Do It", by Richard Branson; and "How To Change Your Life In 7 Steps", by John Bird (Founder of The Big Issue). I'm also reading a variety of travel books.

Heroes:

I admire people who overcome great adversity and succeed:My parents: the family home was a house of refuge - Mum and Dad opened their doors to many who were in need of a place to stay - regardless of race! It was a crowded house, but boy did we have fun! Alas my Dad passed away on 3rd June 2006. He's sorely missed - no one can fill the gap he left. However, he will continue to live on in our hearts forever.Other heroes: Berry Gordy, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Fredi Washington (check out my blog), Josephine Baker, Diana Ross and Jody Watley, aka the Queen of Cool. And then there are those who've made an impact in my life on a personal level, such as my uncle, Percy Thomas (mum's brother), who encouraged me to go to univeristy, study for my degree and to reach my potential. Since graduating in 1999, he's been asking me "so, when are you going to do your master's?". Soon uncle, soon! After that, it'll be "what about your Phd!" You get the picture! Rev Muttiniyagam was one of the most caring people you could ever meet. Despite moving on from my hometown around 1985, he always made the effort to stay in touch (even during my 2-year hiatus in Japan). Sadly, he passed away in December 2004, but he's not forgotten. Such wonderful friends are rare.

Remembering Fredi Washington
