I am here for Friends

About Me

I’m an indie-electro grrrl born and bred in Suffolk, but I ran away from the circus, made it to Sheffield and loved it so much I stayed here."I am made of blue sky and hard rock and I will live this way forever" - motto from a Pavement vinyl sleeveI love music more than pretty much all else - there's a quote by George Eliot that about sums it up:"I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music."As such, I go to loads of gigs and am really passionate about the local music scene. I run 'Sheffield Gig Goers & Music Lovers' , a Facebook/Myspace group to help people find gig buddies, which keeps me busy with socials, ticket giveaways and general musical mayhem. Most excitingly, the group is now involved in two monthly band/club nights, Hide & Seek at DQ, and Gig Goers presents Harley Live at The Harley in Sheffield, which should be loads of fun!
I used to be in a band as the random/kitsch multi-instrumentalist (playing flute, recorder, cowbell, tambourine, melodica, keyboard and a kid's toy maraca), but nowadays I prefer to play other people's music as one half of DJ duo Shape & Pout, with my lovely gal pal Carina. or just on my own as Shape. You can download my first mixtape here .
I also go to a lot of indie and electro club nights and love getting my dance on:"...These are the things you don't understand / Quarter to ten, you're wasting your time / If you want to know me, watch how I dance." - Long Blondes, 'Fulwood Babylon'Aside from music, I also love films, literature, going to museums, art galleries and the theatre, etc. but I’m quite picky about what I like and don’t like – as in; I love reading, but there aren’t many books I love! I can quite happily spend hours in pretentious discussion with people who are equally into the arts though!
"I agreed that what really matters is what you like, not what you are like... Books, records, films -- these things matter. Call me shallow but it's the damn truth..." - Rob in Nick Hornby's 'High Fidelity'I also have a bit of a whimsical nature and I tend to burble on too much (especially when I'm drunk) about the things that amuse me, such as mythical creatures, badgers, how my best friend actually gave me the moon on a stick, and what the best flavour of Angel Delight is. Oh dear.
I'll leave you with some more quotes I like:"Dance like nobody's watching; love like you've never been hurt. Sing like nobody's listening; live like it's heaven on earth." - Mark Twain"All the matter on Earth is star stuff. The carbon in our bodies, the iron in our blood, every bit of this fleshy human thing we are was made in stars... The stars made us possible through their rich and fertile exploding deaths. So we are made of stardust... When we look up and see the stars, we now know that their ancestors are ours as well. And we know that today's stars are still making the stuff of life in their fiery hearts all throughout the Universe." - James Thornton (This is part of the reasoning behind my tattoo)"I burn my candle at both ends, It will not last the night. But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends, It gives a lovely light." — Edna St. Vincent Millay (FOUND FOR ME BY JODE *hugs*)"It's the wanting to know that makes us matter." - Hannah in Tom Stoppard's 'Arcadia'"What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?" - Rob in Nick Hornby's 'High Fidelity'"Remember, Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards and in high heels." - Faith Whittlesey ..
