About Me

In 1794 there were rumours that an attempt was about to be made on the life of the British monarch George III. The event was called The Popgun Plot and it's where this musical project got its name. The conspirators, it was claimed, planned to shoot the king in the neck with a poisoned dart from a pop-gun while he sat in the royal box of a theatre. However, the threat to the thone was invented by a group loyal to the king who wanted to arrest and imprison the alleged conspirators, who were people they just didn't like. Imagine a State inventing a threat in order to justify violence? It just wouldn't happen today would it? ************************************************************ **** The Popgun Plot's debut album, A Compulsion to Blab, is out later this year. The musicians who play on the album are Martin Burns, (vocals, guitar, songs), Ali Donnelly (guitar and drums), Joe Craig (bass), Grania Hyde-Smith and Clare Griffiths (backing vocals), Dave Rose (keyboards), Kess Burns (mandolin and flute) and Grainne Gilmore (violin). It was recorded at Siren Studios, Shoreditch, London, and produced by Alex Hyde-Smith and Martin Burns ************************************************************ **** The band's debut four-track EP, Mr Debussy, is now available for free if you send us a poem or a piece of art work that we like. A song about Debt

There she sits on a rainy dayStaring at the traffic through the windowOf a Charing Cross cafeShe spent the morning on Bond Street. There's bags of labels at her feet. She's spending cash she hasn't got....
