My Interests

Music:

Band Website: prometheon.co.uk
Band Members: James Holbrook - all words (apart from Lost Carcosa-words by Robert W Chambers) and vocals. Steve Tolmie - all the music.
Influences: Steve - Jimmy Page, Alex Lifeson, Brian May, Eddie Van Halen, Brian Robertson, Steve Hillage, John Paul Jones.James - influences couldn't be limited to a few bands or musicians because I wouldn't know where to start or to finish-The one influence who needs to be mentioned before any other is Steve Hyams. Hearing the power of his voice and the way he uses it was the catalyst for much of what you now hear. Also, through the impact their music has made on me, since I first heard it 7 years ago and for Skipper, Ciska Ruitenberg and Edwin de Herder. What follows is an incomplete list of those artists who's work has seeped into my consciousness during a lifetime's addiction to music (addiction is not a term used flippantly) which may have left imprints in what I now create-Haystacks Balboa, Felix Pappalardi, Mountain, Doll by Doll, The Edgar Broughton Band, Golden Earring, Jackie Leven, Pete Brown, Jack Bruce, Laura Nyro, Tom Rapp, Pearls Before Swine, Kevin Coyne, Alex Harvey, Dr John the Night Tripper, Boudewijn de Groot, Mr Quimbys beard, Terry Mann, Jerry Garcia, Robert Hunter, Violet, Spot, Snailsurroundsystem, Steppenwolf, The Pink Fairies, John Cale, David Forman, Richie Havens, Gene Clark, The Outsiders, Iron Butterfly, Bob Dylan, Dirk Hamilton, Bedlam, Van Morrison, Group 1850, Brainticket, Kevin Ayers, The Flying Dutchman, the Fugs, Tim Hardin, Tim Buckley, Juniors Eyes, Buzzy Linhart, Surprieze, Eric Burdon & the Animals, Family, Humble Pie, Horslips, Cream, Patto, Chris Farlowe, Terry Reid, Katonoma, Focus, Golden Palaminos, Malicorne, Pan, Stone Age, Joe Cocker and the Grease Band, Barry Hay, Bill Laswell, Crazy Horse, Free, Frumpy, Bulldog Breed, Flower travellin band, The Mutton Birds, John Phillips, Help Yourself, The Nits, Bachdenkel, Arthur Brown, Nina Simone, the Youngbloods, Hookfoot, Tom Rush, Pavlovs Dog, David Ackles, MC5, Fifty ft hose, Hot Tuna, the Serpent Power, Alan Stivell, Dan Ar Braz, Taj Mahal, Sandy Denny, Essra Mohawk, The Neutrons, Shawn Phillips, Richard Thompson, Lindisfarne, Alan Hull, Bintangs, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Janis Joplin, Gentle Giant, John Martyn, Fairport Convention, Love, The Allman brothers band, Man, Cuby & Blizzards, the Pretty Things, Aphrodites Child, Richard and Mimi Farina, Can, Leonard Cohen, The Guess Who, The Tragically Hip, King Crimson, HP Lovecraft, Robin Lent, Spirit, Procul Harum, the Move, Vanilla Fudge, Pentangle, Pink Floyd, Bert Jansch, Michael Chapman, Fat, Dragonfly, Birth Control, Black Widow, Skin Alley, Blue Cheer, Rory Gallagher, Steve Marriot, Boz Scaggs, Ian Matthews, Moby Grape, Lee Clayton, Atomic Rooster, the Band, the Small Faces, The Who, Holy Modal Rounders, Silver Apples, Isaac Guillory, Spooky Tooth, Traffic, Spring, Robert Jan Stips, Trees, Grin, Nils Lofgren, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad, the Groundhogs, Lifetime, Jackie Lomax, Thin Lizzy, Terje Rypdal, The United States of America, the Stranglers, Captain Beefheart, Bill Fay, Howlin Wolf, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Janus, The Incredible String Band, Graham Bond, Agitation Free, the Deviants, Sandy Denny, Jarvis Street Review, The Band of Gypsies, Syd Barrett, Elliot Murphy, David Blue, the Good Rats, Peter Hammill, the Walkabouts, the Albion Band, Be Bop Deluxe, John Tams, Alquin, Mad River, the Doors, Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, Mr Fox, Brainbox, The Masters Apprentices, Govt Mule, Van der Graff Generator, Ruth Copeland, Mick Softley, Little Feat, the Flock, Sandy Coast, Dirk Hamilton, PFM, Area, Guy Clark, Ahora Mazda, Sonny Condell, Kaleidoscope, Cosmic Dealer, Burnin Red Ivanhoe, Circle, Acid Mothers Temple, Amon Duul 2, the Zippies, the Tower, Martin Carthy, Larry Wallis, Paul Simon, Caravan, Earth and Fire, The Nice, Leon Russell, Chet Nichols, Phil Ochs, Steeleye Span, Carla Bley, Cressida, Audience, Monks, Sweet Smoke, Gryphon, Blue Oyster Cult, The Rascals, Planxty, Armand Schaubroeck, Supersister, Savage Rose, the Flamin Groovies, Crosby Stills and Nash, Skid Row, Jimmy Spheeris, Stoneground, the Red Crayola, Timebox, Stackwaddy, The wizards from Kansas, Tempest, Dino Valenti, Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Jeff Beck Group, the Yardbirds, the Blues Project, Seatrain, Ramatam, Derek and the Dominoes, Chlliwack, Guru Guru, Clark Hutchinson, Eyes of Blue, Grobschnitt, Hackensack, Harsh Reality, Decameron, the Allman Brothers Band, Blues Traveler, Patti Smith, Television, Roy Harper, Neil Young, the Last Poets, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Seeds, Johnny Winter, Stackridge, the Old Man and the Sea, Robin Holcomb, Eric Andersen, Jess Winchester, Be-Bop Deluxe, Canned Heat, Dr Strangely Strange, Deep Purple, Brian Eno, Funkadelic, Sam Gopal, Its A Beautiful Day, the James Gang, Omnibus, Bevis Frond, Frantic, Otis Redding, Al Stewart, David Crosby, Mick Wayne, Ton Ton Macoute, Hawkwind, Brian Auger and the Trinity, Steven Stills, Ten Years After, Steve Gibbons Band, Magic Muscle, Nancy Works on Payday, Tri Yann, Atoll, Fat Mattress, Quintessence, Donovan, Dr Feelgood, Earth&Fire, Lee Michaels, Atlantis, Gary Farr, Goblin, Widespread Panic, Agitation Free, Mellow Candle, The Morrigan, Show of Hands, Hampton Grease Band, Gracious, Giant Sand, Thin White Rope
Sounds Like: In the end we don't know what we sound like. We're the last people to try and describe what we do to you. Most of the pieces we have recorded over the last 4 years have been in excess of 20 minutes and improvised. In the player at the moment are some short pieces. You can still find a recent longer performance on ther website. Listening to the music of Prometheon, you may hear some sounds that verge on familar and you may be heading somewhere unexplored. You might hear some psych, some space rock, some experimental noise, some poetry in an unexpected place. We wonder if you will ever be able to quite place that voice and guitar back in any box. We think it's unlikely you will know exactly what will happen next when we are in your head.
