About Me

Oh please don't make me write about myself. It's so... celebrity.
(Thinks a minute.)
Ok fine.
I have lived all of my life thus far in the beautiful US city of New York. I have a small family (2 siblings and a parent) and many others who know me a little more vaguely through radio and internet contact.
I'm what you might refer to as a structuralist.
I believe that culture is not made up of icons, buildings, songs, clothing, habits, media, laws, or history. Culture is made up solely of the daily interactions of the people within it and their outward contribution to one another as well as their inward consumption of one another's influence. In essence, we are what we exchange sociologically with one another. A structuralist is a self-aware participant in this transaction. I spend great amounts of time and energy reading other people, measuring their needs, their gifts, their flaws, their offerings, and their place. I then compliment the puzzle wherever I can with my own items of the above, based upon the needs I see and what I have to offer. It's like a microcosm application of Kharma. What you put out there becomes what is out there, thus influencing the return felt not only by yourself but by all others in the wheel.
I am a Taoist. The best way to explain this is to say that we are tiny. Life is huge. Life sweeps us around in all-consuming waves but also nudges us in gentle drifts. A taoist disregards all other distraction and social programming just to hear that wave and that drift. The path of least resistance goes the highest and the farthest when we are aware of this.
Like my father, though, I am something of a Confucionist. Not only do I disregard distraction but I also disregard possessions and other vices. The physical gains of our lives are transient. In being temporary they are also dangerous. We kill our spirit to keep them rather than letting these things go to be relaced with what will come next. Many people are content to live for transient gains. I myself am not.

My Interests

Psychology:
conflict/trauma resolution, NLP, regression studies, advanced barrier training, memory resolution studies, general emotional healing
Alternative Medicine:
Reiki, acupuncture, holistic sciences both in nutrition and natural substance healing.
Creativity:
I like to paint. I really like to sculpt. I like music (see below). I collect cool stuff that other people have made. I write fan fiction, I blog, I mess around with poetry. The most fun you'll ever have if you're a writer is to write with other people. Add to what the other has written. Some stuff has been used as lyrics by friends in bands. I like to build stuff. I made my computers and made all the little blinky stuff that sits next to them. Not all of it works but it's a neat hobby.
The Other Stuff:
animals, geology & earth sciences,
astronomy (you couldn't tell),

my bro and my sis and hanging out with dad. All very complex and very cool people.

I'd like to meet:

People with a sense of purpose. A sense of urgency. A sense of humour. Sensitivity. Creativity. An ethos.
I'm not necessarily here to meet people, just hang around and interact. If I get added or find someone interesting enough to add, that's a refeshing surprise. If not, c'est la vie.
Don't be shy. I am always around and you can always send me a message to say hello.

Music:

Meh. I have a little of everything. I do not like harsh negative stuff so I tend to steer clear of the angsty ugly rap and metal when I can. Music that serves a purpose either to allow an artist to vent their emo mojo or to allow the listener to vent it.
Music that is complex like classical or electronica. Music that's simple like solo work (piano, etc). Anything that's good. Especially local.

Movies:

I like long epic story-telling films and that's not something I can tear myself away from. It's sad actually. Give me LOTR or Crouching Tiger and I'll be hidden away out of your face for days...

Television:

Television is such a commercial disgrace. But it has its redeeming points. Like sci-fi. And the learning channels, like TLC and Discovery. I am only watching what I can learn from or feel creatively stirred by. Well that and I like cartoons. They're relaxing.
In other words, I'll not be caught dead watching the Oscars or reality show tripe or anything on MTV or any other Viacomm commodity. Not interested.

Books:

Oh everything. I seriously lack living space because I have so damn many books. I know other people who are worse than me but I'm pretty bad.
My favs are anything relational, or having to do with psychology and science. That having been said I'm actually not that big into sci-fi reading. Much of what's out there that has come after Asimov is just trash. Really.
But I did enjoy everything I've ever read by Fred Saberhagen. I'm not partial to depressing vampire fiction either but Michael Romkey is very good.

Heroes:

Mom. (I will see you again someday.)
My father. My family.
People who give their time and energy to others just because it's needed of them. You are all heroes.
A few miscellaneous scientists like a little-known fella named Albert, a russki named Tesla, a social activist named Mahatma. A brilliant biologist named Robert Becker.
Oh and whoever invented tea.

My Blog

geek: an essay

[originally written by Robert Hayden.] A geek is a very difficult thing to define. Not only is it tricky to pin down exactly what I think of as a geek, there are also people who disagree with my defin...
