Urban sonic combo fueled by beats, rhymes and life, led by MCs Lurdez Da Luz and Rodrigo Brandão, this inovator Sound System from São Paulo hit the streets in the y2k. Their mission's to lay down the foundations for a new, original, style of brazilian hip hop. Half a decade, 3 albums, a bunch of compilation tracks, concerts and emotions after, Mamelo owns a history which includes partnerships with renowned artists such as US's Afrika Bambaataa, Wax Poetics, J-Period, Rahzel (legendary The Roots beatboxer),mangue beat masters Nação Zumbi and mundo livre s/a, drum & bass don Dj Marky, local rap's OGs Black Alien, ThaÃde & DJ Hum, plus brazilian jazz greats J. T. Meirelles and Naná Vasconcelos. Nowadays, the crew's other members are Professor M. Stereo (on the MPC and effects) and Dj PG on the turntables. Now it's time for them to celebrate the release of a new album, Velha Guarda 22, produced by Brooklyn's own Scotty Hard, whose credentials as producer/engineer includes work with De La Soul, Mike Ladd, Wu-Tang Clan, Prince Paul and Medeski, Martin & Wood. For better or for worse, Mamelo Sound Sistem is an afro-futurist brazilian hip hop group.
