I generally live for the weekend. Music plays a major part in my life, most of my spare time is spent on my decks or looking for more vinyl to add to my collection. I've also just started to produce beats as well. As well as the music i like to keep fit and active and go to the gym a few times a week to do some boxing training, I have also just started Thai-Boxing with K-Star. Other than that i like to keep up to date with whats happening with Aston Villa and try and get down to the odd game or watch them in the pub.
People who are open minded, not necessarily into the things that i like as im always looking to broaden my own horizons by learning new things. As long as you are down to earth and sound then its all good, if you are a self righteous prick or one of these people who plays music off their phones on the bus you can fuck off.
Where do i start really? I have such a wide range of musical tastes and influences. My main love is Drum 'n' Bass, the filthier the better. My favourite artists at the moment being Universal Project, Dom + Roland, Dylan, Break, Tech Itch, Limewax, Audio, Spor etc and the labels Metalheadz, Moving Shadow and Renegade Hardware. Drum 'n' Bass is the music that i dj and produce as well, i also mix old skool jungle as much as possible as well and think i have an addiction to buying more and more vinyl, always searching for that next tune. As well as dnb i listen to a lot of hip-hop, metal, reggae/dancehall, soul, jazz, grunge, indie, garage, funk, trip-hop, breaks, electro, most things really.
Over the years my main influences have constantly changed and i was actually quite late getting into the Drum 'n' Bass scene which i originally got into through a mate who played me Brown Paper Bag by Roni Size when i was playing bass in a band in around 1999, from then on i was hooked. I have always loved hip-hop from people like De La Soul, Wu-Tang, Gang Starr, Tribe Called Quest, Jurassic 5 etc and more recently a lot of the UK hip-hop like Klashnekoff, Wordsmith, Jehst, Foreign Beggars etc. I have also liked metal, indie and grunge for many years listening to people Nirvana, Korn, Rage Against the Machine, Oasis, Placebo, Foo Fighters, Blur, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers etc. As well as these ive also had phases through house and garage and other forms of dance/electronic music, people like The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Freq Nasty, Leftfield and Massive Attack etc. In the last few years ive been listening to a lot of experimental stuff from people like Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert, Squarepusher, Boards of Canada etc. and am constantly listening out for new things that i may not have heard.
Production wise my influences come from people like The Panacea, Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert, Photek, Dillinja etc. People who arent afraid to try different things and push things to the limits.
I watch a lot of Japanese and Thai films such as; The Grudge, Ichi, The Ring, Ong Bak, Audition etc but also a lot of British films (Lock Stock..., Human Traffic, Shaun of the Dead, Snatch, South West 9 etc) and some American stuff as long as they are not too cheesy like a lot of the big Hollywood films seem to be to me. I also love a good horror movie, Kung Fu movies and the odd Manga flick as well. My favourite film of all time though is probably either Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction, my opinion changes every time i watch each one. Both are such good films and have great soundtracks, Quentin Tarantino is a genius.
I dont really watch a lot of TV but if i do its usually a comedy like Peep Show, The Simpsons, The Office, Extras, The Mighty Boosh, Futurama, Family Guy etc. Maybe the odd documentary if it is on something interesting.
I like books that are real, autobiographies, accounts of real events and things like that. I like to learn while im reading. Its all about the knowledge.
