Rob Warner - DJ, producer and A&R
bio...Rob Warner began DJing in the early 90s after a few of years collecting records and having become addicted to dark rooms and loud music. His early influences slanted towards the early American garage/house sounds of Blaze, Ten City, Steve 'Silk' Hurley etc and later Strictly Rhythm, Tribal America , Sex Trax etc - mixed with European artists/labels like Eon, Leftfield, Njoi, Guerilla Recs etc. Over a decade later - the music has changed but the vibe has stayed the same - deep, bumping, funky, twisted music for the dance floor. Future Garage for short!
Rob's DJing style reflects his diverse influences and a passion for finding dark, strange and sexy bombs which aren't being thrashed by everyone else. His sets are futuristic but still have a classic vibe, and always aimed at the dance floor.
"When I DJ I like to mix things up - from deep house to garage to tribal to futuristic tech-house and funky techno - mixing the funky with the dark, the mellow with the driving."
Rob has performed at hundreds of events and been resident DJ at the most celebrated clubs in New Zealand since the early 1990s - The Box, Redzone, Calibre and Crowbar. He has played on events in Singapore, China, Australia, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand where he was the music director at Distil bar on the 64th floor of State Tower in Bangkok in 2004/5. Venues played include Singapore's Attica Too, Hong Kong's boutique Evisu bar/club, Bed Supperclub Bangkok and more - including playing extensively throughout Asia on events for 42 Below Vodka.
Rob has also been a support DJ on dozens of tours to New Zealand for clubbing brands including: Global Underground supporting Danny Howells (three times), Deep Dish, Steve Lawler & Nick Warren; Renaissance alongside Sander Kleinenberg, Dave Seaman & Junkie XL. Other events have seen him DJ alongside Desyn Masiello , Stacey Pullen , Sasha, Pete Heller , Terry Francis, Cass , Austin Leeds, Derrick Carter, Dan Kahuna, Lottie, The Sharp Boys, Phil Asher, Dimitri From Paris, DJ Sneak and many more.
Rob's sets include many of his own re-edits/remakes - some of which have ended up in the sets of top DJs globally. His remix work to date includes remixes for NZ groups Dub Asylum and Substax with recording partner Josh Webb. He has been involved in producing compilation CDs with BMG Music NZ - conceiving and mixed the Full Throttle CD in 2003 which became a top selling compilation in NZ with music by X-press 2, Stefano Greppi, Scumfrog, Death In Vegas, Faithless and more.
More recently he produced a track for the New Zealand film You Move You Die due to be released globally late 2007.
Not content with just playing music Rob is also a recognised music writer/reviewer for various websites including Our House Magazine, WorldDJ.com and his own blog page. He is also an A&R man-on-the-ground for two new US-based label projects.
