Biography
balErik began djing late 2001, realising the music he liked listening to online was not being played out, that maybe there was a gap he could plug. Things were pretty healthy back then but since, the scene has deflated, like an old birthday balloon. “It’s all about the love for it”, sais Erik, “its not about the money, for sure. It’s hard work. Sometimes you wonder if it’s really worth it.” Everyone has that moment in this business, hits that nadir and then – just at the lowest ebb – you’ll hear that certain record… and all of a sudden: it’s worth it all over again.balErik is one of the rebels on the Scandinavian outskirts of the European continent; fighting the fight against evil and chaos. Again it has opened doors for him – gigs in Poland, Russia, San Francisco, Miami, London, Bulgaria, Croatia and A&R work for Rowan Blades’ best pal Desyn Masiello. In 2003, balErik started a monthly club night in Oslo, with occational other one off parties being thrown in other Norwegian cities, "Dirty grooves". The night has been a great success and got nominated for best clubnight in a Norwegian online clubbing magazine same year. The year after he also got into promoting another clubnight called Timeslip also a monthly night based in Oslo. The main ideas with both club nights are happy vibes and amazing house & techno music. This night has recently celebrated its third birthday and is still going strong.
He has has played together with Rowan Blades, Luke Fair, Seaumus Haji, Chris Fortier, Yousef, Kingkade, Greg Vickers, Jeff Bennett, Nils Noa, Omid 16B, Desyn Masiello and Inkfish, to name a few known names. Some of balEriks favorite djs and influences are Danny Howells, Desyn Masiello & Rowan Blades. balErik recently started with some producing and some of his remixes and edits have have been played by Deep Dish, Sander Kleinenberg, John Digweed, Nic Fanciulli, Demi, Desyn Masiello, Max Graham and Behrouz. Aswell as do work as A+R scout for the infamous Alternative route record label from the UK, where its his job to find the unsigned diamonds for the future. which also opens more possibilities to work on original material for him in the future, he has set up a new digital label, Discoteca Music, with his mates Dana Bergquist, Tom Morgan and Somnus corp. Erik has played all over Oslo at all the main venue’s and also travelling abroad for gigs at Turnmills in London, San Fransisco & Miami USA, Schezchin & Warszaw in Poland, Sofia in Bulgaria, Riga & Daugapils in Latvia, Stockholm & Gothenburg in Sweden, Pula in Croatia, Murmansk in Russia. In his spare time he is constantly looking for hot tunes, doing special re-edits and mixes to be prepared in the best possible way for the next gig.
