About Me
Doug Masters (Aka D*Funk) is a Breaks & Electro Dj, producer & remixer based in Bournemouth, UK. You can catch me Djing at the following events...
The music which I produce is a mix of Breaks, Electro, Techno & Dirty/Jackin' House. It may have a breakbeat, its may have a 4/4 rhythm. It may be dirty, its may be funky. I try to be different with what I do & the way i construct my tracks & beats, but my music has one comnstant element - its aimed 100% for the dancefloor. Recently the whole minimal explosion has had a effect on my sound but I wouldn't say that the music I produce is minimal, but it definitly draws heavy influnces from it.
I currently co-promoter & am resident DJ at a breaks, electro & eclectic beats night called 'Break da House', which is bournemouth's biggest & best breaks, electro & eclectic beats night. Break da House has been running since July 2004, providing Bournemouth with a proper outlet for underground music, be it breaks, electro or eclectic based. We have already worked with a host of the top breaks DJ's, such as Stanton Warriors, Freestylers, Meat Katie, Lee Coombs, Tayo, Elite Force, Evil Nine, Dub Pistols, Plump DJ's, Krafty Kuts, Ali B, Will Saul & Dogtown Clash. This has helped put ourself firmly of the map as one of the biggest & best breaks nights in the south. Our aim to to put on a proper party that pushes the boundaries & is constantly evolving. We try to keep the fun in partying & enjoy ourself as we excite a musical reveloution in our own space... We are keeping it real in Bournemouth, flying the flag for breaks, pushing good music & a good party.

Having played music as a DJ in clubland all over the UK & Ibiza for the past 12 years I'm now moving into the vast world of music production. And it's about time to! My main aim is to make music for people to dance to, that will help enhance my DJ sets, as first & foremost Im still a DJ. The sounds that I'm making are based in the breaks / electro side of things. Sometimes they are breakbeat led, sometimes they are 4/4 led. Im sure that this approach will appeal to some people & also some have said I should stick to just breaks or house but this is the sound I play as a DJ so it's true to myself to take this approach in my production. When you hear me DJ you can expect me to play a mix of breakbeats and 4/4 beats, depending on the venue or crowd. It may be funky, it may not. I am DJ that adapts to the venue Im playing & reads what the crowd want, at the same time still keeping to what I'm about musically...
Im currently doing more & more work in the studio & making as much music as I can, be it original tracks, remixes or cheeky re-edits! I am lucky enough to have released my debut Ep 'ElectroTek / Transitons' by D*Funk on uber-cool breakbeat label Westway Records which reached no2 in the Know How records & Kiss FM Breaks chart in Feb 2007 & was given supprts from DJ's suach as Meat Katie & The Dub Pistols...
'ElectroTek / Transition' - D*Funk. Westway Records 009.
''First up to the plate is Doug Masters, aka D*Funk. This is Doug's first release, although having been a DJ and promoter for over a decade you can tell that he knows what he's doing. The brains behind the Break Da House nights in Bournemouth, providing Bournemouth with a much-needed outlet for proper underground dance music, Doug is one of the finest technical breaks/house dance DJs in the UK.
For this release Doug has turned in three varying styles, as befits his DJ sets. There's the sci-fi breakbeat funk of the aptly-named 'ElectroTek', with a melody line reminiscent of Orbital at their finest. The 4/4 version of 'ElectroTek' is more kickin, the melody line morphing around electro-tek stylings for a rework sure to find favour with forward-thinking 4/4 jocks. Finally, 'Transitions', an electronic breakbeat track that's already stirred up a bit of controversy when played off CDR. 'See, when you come out of those uptempo goddamn numbers man, it's impossible to make those transitions', runs the vocal sample, culled from a 1950's American radio DJ struggling with the impact of rock & roll. A couple of people form the tear-out breakbeat quarter have already concluded that this is a diss of their scene, but Doug insists this is far from the truth. All sub-genres of breakbeat have their place, he states''.
DJ Mag (Vol 4. No 33. Feb '06) 4/5.
''Bit of an Orbital feel to the electronic hook on this, a well named track that will find favor with the tech-funk brigade. And 'Transition' have a chioce samle that will make you chortle.''
