SoulShine Festival is an independent and underground electronic music festival in Boechout (near Antwerp and Lier).
In August 2004 it was held for the first time on a meadow at the old Fortress in Borsbeek. In the afternoon there was an outdoor drum ‘n bass stage and in the evening the party continued in a marquee with mostly house and breakbeat dj’s. The year after the date and location changed: 7th of October in Boechout. No afternoon part anymore but two marquees instead of one, a drum ‘n bass and a breakz stage. Edition number three took place on the 14th of October at Boshoek, Boechout. We added a third (Techno) stage to the SoulShine Festival-area. It was the most succesful edition up to now. The amount of visitors keeps on growing every year (thank you!).
Upcoming edition has to become another hit. We keep the same date and location. There will be 3 marquees: the drum ‘n bass stage, the Funk You! stage and the Bock Rockin’ Beats stage. You’ll be able to hear Drum&Bass, Dubstep, Jungle, Tech-step, Breakz & Beats, Minimal, Electrohouse, Acidhouse, Tech-house, Old School Suff, Breakbeats, P-Funk, House, Hiphop, R&B, Reggea and more funky shit!
DJ’s who already played at SoulShine are Buscemi, Loxy (UK), Big Eye (NL), System D, D-Convict, Soul Phonic, E-Phonk, Nouveau Riche, Wasp, Lady Vortex, Trish Van Eynde, JRD, Tito, Echo Virus, Cyrix, Merdan Taplak, Ed&Kim, Lady Lite, Fillah, MC Mary Jane, Lux from Partizan, Gamorah Sound, Tektick, Turntable Dubbers, Jackattack & Vertigo, Laston & Geo, AK Crew, Dice, Goldorak, GOTC/Kastor, Groove Merchant, Guy Ohm… Vj’s: Teknar & Boemtjak.
Drum&bass, jungle, dubstep, tech-step… by
Dom & Roland
(UK - 'Through The Looking Glass' tour)
Without doubt one of the most original and creative forces behind drum and bass, Dom & Roland really needs no introduction. Whether as a producer in his own right or as an engineer for somebody else, Dominic Angas has always sought to push himself to create music that stands apart with a unique quality of it’s own. As a dj, Dom has the same philosophy as on his production and his sets contain some of the toughest, freshest dancefloor drum and bass around. He continues to travel the world after having toured the globe for over 10 years, proving he’s more passionate than ever before about the music he loves. With a new album (through the looking glass') and a host of exciting releases planned for his label, 2007 looks set to be one of Dom’s busiest years yet.
Nymfo
(NL - RedZone)
Nymfo is one of the members from the legendary drum and bass crew from Eindhoven - Holland "RED ZONE." He joined the Red Zone when he was 17 years old and played in a lot venues in Holland like Effenaar, Melkweg, Nighttown, Doornroosje, Tivoli. But also in other countries like Belgium, France, Israel, Norway, England, Hungary and China. In 2005 he won the award for best Dutch d&b deejay. The style he's been playing can be described as rolling! Including lots of new bits mixed up with older favorites of his. Not compromising to popular styles, the bass line has his preference always. With tight mixing and up tempo changes in vibes, you can hear a bit of everything, and all good! At the moment he's making a lot of great tunes together with Icicle.
System D
(BE - Warning)
System-D is all about destroying any dance floor and bringing the crowd to another level with his unique technique combining tight mixing skills, scratches and beat-juggling. Often compared with his masters Hype, Marky or Andy C!He played alongside the biggest names as Grooverider, Fabio, Ed Rush, Optical, Matrix, Total Science, Bad Company, DJ Zinc, DJ Hype, Krust, Kosheen, Marcus Intalex, Technical Itch, Dom 'n' Roland, Alex Reece, E-Z Rollers, J-Majik, Sonic 'n' Silver, Nicky Blackmarket, Dillinja to name but a few.
Kastor
(BE - Untitled, SoulShine)
Active in the electronic dancemusic scene since the late nineties, when the jungle-sound was conquering the world. He was partying at a young age on the sounds of Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, Jeff Mills & Surgeon.Since 2005, his attention shifted to Dubstep - which was gaining momentum for a few years and exploded in that year. The unmatched vibe of this bass-heavy offspring of Garage/2-step took him on a trip through hard-to-find vinyl releases and dubs, spread as high-resolution mp3's - called 320's in the jargon. He's been playing alongside the biggest names in the scene, among which: Noisia, Klute, Loxy, Heist, Paradox, Black Sun Empire, Die, J Majik, Vex'd, Mary Ann Hobbs, Virus Syndicate, Distance, Paul Rose aka Scuba, Hatcha, Slimzee, Loefah, Hijak, Random Trio, Milanese to name just a few. He's also one of the main forces behind the Antwerp based dubstep parties called 'Untitled!'.
Dice
(BE - Bambu)
Dice has been active in dance music for almost two decades now. Half of which have been spent dj’ing and promoting various styles of music. His love for music and continuous search for new sounds led him to rediscover the dark garage hybrid in 2005, the sounds of dmz, hotflush, tempa, road and soulja had injected him with a fresh sound called dubstep. Since 2006 he’s been pushing these beats through various channels. Internetradio on Monday nights (www.reload-radio.com), a monthly bar residency (first at .../---/..., now at The Barcode) and more recently through the Untitled! Parties put on by Kastor & Sim Soulshine. He quickly gained a name for himself through his upfront selection of unreleased tracks and artists and infamous b2b sessions with Kastor.
Soi
(BE - Partizan, Guerilla)
Drum'n'bass-dj since 1997, did the support for dj's as Dylan, Loxy, Keaton, Ink, Teebee, BSE, Usual Suspects, Aphrodite, Klute, E-Z Rollers… Party-organiser on the side. Allround and kwalitative partymusic-dj since he was old enough to sneak out at night. Made music on demand for many graduating fashionstudents and other projects, dancedelic's chilloutzone, award-winning shortmovies ('1-0' by Jelle Debusscher), tailored audio-editing… As a samplist & scratcher, he is a member of bands as Koala and Confituur All-Stars (live improvisation-band with members of Wawadadakwa, Traktor, Freestyle Fabric, Daau, Lais…). Recently, Soi found the connection between his earlier dnb/hiphop/digidub influences and dubstep. As an upcoming dubstep-producer, his tracks get support from dj's worldwide, reloadradio.com and subfm.
Tito & Echo Virus
(BE - Stealth Bombers)
Echo Virus started mixing as a techno dj (DJ Bassyard). Over the years techno evolved to something he couldn't identify himself with anymore, so at the end of 2003 he decided it was time to switch to drum & bass! After buying a lot of records and sharpening his DJ skills in 2004, he was ready to come out.Depending on the mood, his styles ranges from techy up-tempo stuff to dark and raw floorsmashers!Tito has always been hanging around in the underground scene… When he was 16 he started going out to concerts and hardcore shows… It was a great time but in the year 2001 he attended a drum n bass party for the first time. That was the day the dnb-virus bit him. Fast and heavy drumlines with a furious bass… He loved it! Tito likes to mix the harder dnb genre but also switches over to more melodic tunes. It depends on how hes feeling that day…At the end of 2004 Echo Virus & Tito teamed up to orginise an event together. This was a huge succes and the Stealth Bombers was born!! Since 2005 Stealth Bombers is one of the most succesfull dnb events in Antwerp! September 28th, they'll host a Stealth Bombers heavy weight edition at Hof Ter Lo!

Breakz & beats, mnml, electro, acidhouse, (tech)house, old school stuff & more funky shit by
Jan Van Biesen
(BE - Studio Brussel, Switch)
He’s been through pop and rock; funk and dub; but also the 2nd Summer Of Love. Acidbleeps, electro and house: it was the logical progression. He played at a lot of eclectic parties, concertvenues, cafes, clubs and festivals (10 Days Off, Werchter, I Love Techno, Pukkelpop, Dour, Groove City, Café d’Anvers, Fuse, Decadance, Zazou…). In 2000 he won the ZAMU-award for best DJ. He’s the founder of Superfly, Easybies, Mixomatose, Headroom, Switch, and now he’s the big chief at Studio Brussel.
Smos & Baby Bee
(BE - Café d'Anvers, Elastix, Eskimo)
Smos and Baby Bee are a duo who started their DJ career in early '90s, when they were in the small group of DJs who were playing house music on the Belgian music scene. They made their DJ name famous thanks to their funky, uplifting style, which was based on deep vocal house, dubby grooves, percussive rhythms, early UK and US house releases and occasional electrofunk-disco classics. They became residents at Café D'Anvers in 1993, and you can still hear them playing there every second Saturday in a month, when they perform their famous long sets. Apart from that they were resident at Eskimo, Tijuana, Fuse… and played on many occasions in all good Belgian house clubs and many times abroad. They shared the decks with plenty of famous international DJ stars ( Kenny Hawkes, Silicone soul, Mark Farina, D'Julz, Freeform Five, Derrick Carter, Luke Solomon, Carl Craig, Jack de Marseille, Jeff K, Serge Santiago, Tiefschwarz…).
Ed & Kim
(BE - Switch, BreakDown, Cocadisco, Funk You!)
More than 10 years ago this duo started to abuse the decks with a very eclectic taste in music. They were the first to introduce nu-skool breakbeat in Belgium. In their sets they combine this sound with other dancegenres like electro, house, old-skool acid, new wave, dubbed-out disco, rock, funked-up beats… They never stick to one sound and always suprise you with a forgotten classic now&then. Only three words rule their musical taste: originality, attitude and quality. Being Funk You! residents since the beginning they have to be on the bill again, offcourse!
PICTURES - DJ LINE UP SIX YEARS FUNK YOU! AREA:

Breakbeats, p-funk, house, hiphop, R&B, reggea… by
Turntable Dubbers
(BE - Stereo Sushi, Laundry Day, SoulShine)
With four hands on two decks and a lot of bravado, Timaxx & Drezz bring you a steamy blend of dub, roots, reggae, breax and jungle, ragga, afro-, balkan- and latin-beats and other pieces of funkiness. Uptempo irie indeed. They already rocked the crowd at every Belgian club and festival: 10Days Off Gent, Cactus Festival Brugge, Pole Pole, Sfinks Festival, Petrol, Laundry Day, Feest in het Park, Ancienne Belgique… But also abroad: from Poland, France, Holland, Malta and Spain to the Balkans…
Templeton (aka Murdock)
(BE - Jungle Fever, Breakdown, Petrol)
Murdock has been dj'ing in the Belgian drum&bass scene for more than 10 years, alongside artists like Goldie, Roni Size, Marky, Grooverider, Ed Rush & Optical, Dillinja, Pendulum, Digital, Spirit, Total Science, High Contrast, LTJ Bukem - the list goes on and on. He runs the only weekly national d&b radio show on the continent, Mondays, from 22h till 24h, on Studio Brussel. Murdock is also the driving force behind the Breakdown concept, together with longtime affiliates Ed&Kim. In the past, Murdock has toured South-Africa and played at Hospital's clubnight Hospitality @ Herbal, London. He regularly appeares in the Netherlands and has performed at festivals such as Dour, 10 Days Off and Pukkelpop. In addition he's a monthly resident at Petrol, the largest alternative club in the country, holding up to 2000 ppl. He steadily plays at the Happy and Boa events as well, and has furthermore touched down at about every major event in the country, as well as every club, venue and youthcenter. His style varies between liquid rollers, deep dubby sounds and heavy breaks, with records coming in at rapid succession
Laston & Geo
(BE - Lawaai)
Laston & Geo, two friends from Boechout who've been spinning records for more than eight years together now, lost their souls to music. Even though they are devoted to house and electro beats, they like to go overboard with genres as diverse as breakbeat, pop, disco and even a sniff of rock now and again...but...only if it's funky baby! They played in venues like Cafe d'Anvers, Culture Club, Bonthuys, Red&Blue, Stereo Sushi, Diamond Princess, De Cinema, Kaaiman, Cafe Capital, Cafe Kalifornia and at parties like Nacht vd Student, Woosha, Paul Frank, Burn Release Party, ...Laston&Geo already shared the decks with deejays like Discobar Galaxie, Fedde le Grand (NL), TLP , DJ Prinz, Turntable Dubbers, Guy-ohm, Freres Deluxe, Ed&Kim, Trish, D'Stephanie, Jan Van Biesen, Bobby Ewing, Marco Bailey, Christophe Lambrecht, Ramon Tapia aka Carlitto, eEF and many others.
Jackattack & Vertigo
(BE - SoulShine, Lawaai)
These 2 young brothers from Hove, Antwerp, bought their first decks about 5 years ago. Their passion for electronic music started out with techno, but they quickly broadened their vision. Eventually leaving techno behind them, they now bring something you could call freestyle. House, breaks, funk, drum & bass, hip hop, that's what it's mainly about.Their original style brought them to various events and clubs such as Café d'Anvers, Stereo Sushi, Café Capital, Red & Blue, Sportpaleis, Trix, De Cinema, Kaaiman…
DJ Sun
(BE - City Delirious, Funk You!)
DJ Sun is the founder of the legendary City Delirious parties. When the City Delirious story came to an end, he was the first resident (together with Ed & Kim) at the Club Zazou based Funk You! parties. He played a blend of funky breakz and beatz.
