About Me

What happens when you take a bluesy female singer and put her in front of a piano / guitar based jam band? You get Joy Missile - a six piece combo from Chicago, Illinois. The sound is diverse and something all their own. Some have described it as introspective lounge pop - think Guster fronted by Joss Stone...or Coldplay fronted by Susan Tedeschi...you get the picture?Joy Missile's songs range from the upbeat melancholy funk of "Follow Me Down" to the swaggering, bluesy rock of "Sunshine" to the reggae-infused staccato stomp of "So You Know".The sound is the result of six very different musical backgrounds. Dave Bills's songs lean toward the the moodier rock songcraft of Peter Gabriel, The Smiths and Freedy Johnston. Jon Raleigh's songs are influenced by classic power pop ( XTC , The Beatles , Matthew Sweet ) and infuse the collaboration with excellent hooks and inspired guitar riffery. It also doesn't hurt when you've got an incredible vocalist who's got more soul in her left pinkie than the entire past few seasons of American Idol.
