What I Like About Jew is the NYC-based musical duo of Sean Altman and Rob Tannenbaum, who've been called "the Bart Simpsons of the Yeshiva" by Time Out New York, and "the Simon & Garfunkel of ethnic gag songs" by the Boston Globe.
We have been compared to:
*Lenny Bruce
*Sarah Silverman
*Tenacious D
*"South Park"
*Mel Brooks
*Tom Lehrer
The duo was featured in Time Out's cover story on "The New Super Jews," and has been hailed in the New York Times, The Onion, "Fresh Air" with Terry Gross on NPR, and in Philadelphia Weekly, which said: "Nothing compares to the bawdy borscht-belt comedy of Altman and Tannenbaum, who take Catskills seltzer-bottle humor to a dirty new low, with lyrics that make Lenny Bruce look like a choirboy."
New York Times
"Sean Altman and Rob Tannenbaum might be giants of Jewish joke-pop, but you can also hear some Beatles in their risque borscht-belting--not to mention a reverence for tradition."
Boston Globe
"Their songs are racy and funny and smart and affectionate, written for a generation of fully assimilated Jews who grew up on punk rock and South Park."
Baltimore CityGuide
"Irreverent and hilarious, a smorgasbord of dirty humor, high wit and musical lunacy. Think Lenny Bruce meets Mel Brooks meets Sarah Silverman."
The Stranger
"Wry and dirty, the bastard love child Tenacious D and Fiddler on the Roof never had."
Village Voice
"A pair of razor-sharp wiseacres named Rob Tannenbaum and Sean Altman have been touring their mostly hilarious, occasionally self-deprecating, and, less often, dead-serious Hebraic homage for a while now."
The New Yorker
"Their first CD, 'Unorthodox,' gives them the opportunity to expose the nation to the likes of 'They Tried to Kill Us (We Survived, Lets Eat),' 'JDate,' and 'Jews Jews Jews.' With the Hasidic reggae singer Matisyahu rising in Billboard's Top Ten, who knows how far these two can go?"
Jewsweek.com
"With wickedly witty lyrics that make the audience moan and groan, Altman and Tannenbaum are not-so-nice Jewish boys. They set a new standard of outrageousness for the rest of the Jewish pop star wannabes."
Jewlicious.com
"HILARIOUS! And yes. Rob's hair really is THAT fabulous."
Eric Alterman of MSNBC.com
"It's intelligent, reflective, funny, self-critical and celebratory all at once. And it sure beats the hell out of circumcision."
Todd David Schwartz, CBS Radio
"I've gotta tell ya, this is one of the top ten best nightclub acts I've seen in my entire life, and I've seen 'em all, baby! Witty, clever, and delightfully politically incorrect. If you don't have the opportunity to catch their show, I highly recommend their new CD, Unorthodox, which is, hands down, the best comedy album of the year. "
Flavorpill
"What I Like About Jew walks the fine line between hilarious and outrageous, on a level well beyond Adam Sandler's comparatively quaint Hanukkah Song.'"
Jewish Journal
"Cheerfully crass, politically incorrect, subversively funny and X-rated musical chutzpah which makes Adam Sandler look like a choirboy."
Jewish Telegraph
"Their hilarious CD will offend as many people as it delights."
