::::::::::::

While I have a formal art education, I find myself breaking rules more and more often and certainly trying to "un-teach" a lot of the formal part of the education. I just do what I love best, indeed, have to do...Create.

I am constantly inspired by life and my surroundings. I find that abstract expressionism and experimentation suits me best though I enjoy working representational as well. It depends on my mood. I use a wide range of media including Pen and Ink, Acrylics, Watercolors, Colored Pencils, Pastels, Collage, Sand, Found Objects, Homemade Papers...almost anything I can get my hands on.

I live right at the door of Olympic National Park in Washington State. The beaches, the mountains, the rainforests... perfect place for isolation to create beautiful art. Thank goodness for the Internet or I just might starve! ;-)

The name of my studio is after my daughter, Heather Sky.

My Interests

Art, wildlife, birds, forests, beaches, mountains, reading, Native American history, Native Rights and Causes

A word of note on my interests Native, I am NOT a wannabe in the least. I have some Cherokee and Mohawk way back there, but my daughter is more in that she is 1/4 Jicarilla Apache. And it is important for her to know her background. I have a great sympathy/empathy for what has happened to them and what yet needs to be done. I salute those fighting for it! I'm steadfast for the rights and upholding of their Treaties. I'm originally from Wyoming and Colorado but am currently in Washington State. I've been introduced to the native culture up here to some degree now...wonderful people and I love learning more about them. One more thing as I close this bit of ramble, I am absolutely for the Makah and their right to hunt whale according to treaty. If they choose not to, it is their business alone (and there are some who don't want to) -- but no one else's. I typically think Green Peace is an excellent group, but not in this case. There, finished :-)

I'd like to meet:

Artists, Musicians, Writers

Music:

Classic Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, "New Age" (though this really means just some neat world beat cool music. I hate labels) Native American

Movies:

Anything that has a real sense of story. Not a typical trendy movie, anything sharp and a little offbeat. It can be a horror movie, thrillers, sci fi...whatever. Just be smart, quirky and show some intelligence. Some favorites: Fargo, Blade Runner, Sling Blade, The Green Mile and Pow Wow Highway...a wonderful little film!

Television:

Most TV programming is crap and so are the commercials. If I watch it at all it's usually a learning channel of some sort. Discovery Channel, National Geographic, The History Channel, The Science Channel...you get the picture.

Books:

Anything and everything I can get my hands on that is Stephen King. It's not all just horror and the boogey man here! Thought provoking and excellent work. Clive Barker, horror genre but major intelligence. Barbara Kingsolver, Tony Hillerman.

Heroes:

Our Soldiers...each and every one. Police, Firefighters, Mom, Dad and Husband. :-)
