About Me
As of April 1st, Studio One is officially out of business. Why?
Chronology:Our lease was held by Legacy Rehab, and was a sub-lease. As of '06 we were month to month, and were only due a 30 day notice to vacate. The owner of the bldg. was Ducharme Development.November '06: We saw there were serious staffing and customer issues with Legacy Rehab, so we approached them to see if there were problems. We were assured that while there were problems, (she) had too much invested to walk away so we were told not to worry.December 2nd, '06: We saw more problems. We SPECIFICALLY asked if they were moving/going out of business and were told NO.December 22th, '06: We received a phone call saying that Legacy MAY be moving, but not to worry and we would certainly NOT be affected.January 2nd, '07: We received a phone call saying that Legacy Rehab HAD ALREADY moved, and they wanted to turn off the power/alarm/phones/internet. We were then told that in order to stay at our current location, it was expected that we would assume ALL rent, energy, triple net charges, etc., while previously we were operating under the understanding that we had a fixed rental that covered all charges. Considering that we were BARELY breaking even (even though we did substantial business), we informed Ducharme Development that we would be unable to meet those requirements and were FORCED to move.
So What's Next? After an attempt to re-open at another location (a residential house), it was determined that:1) the timing was not going to work. Too many customers had too many projects they wanted done NOW, and we were unable to accomodate them given the fact that we had not been able to secure a home fast enough to move the residents of the house that we were proposing to use.2) it turned out the house had too many problems (road noise, size/layout of rooms/etc.), and considering it took 2 1/2 years to find the legacy rehab location, we decided to bag it.3) Too many complaints about our situation lead me to determine that people were too demanding for the size of our market. To this i say 'good luck' to those in the lansing area hoping to find a studio as accomodating as ours was for the price. What does this mean to you?Simple. If you have a project that we have promised to finish, we will, but on OUR time at no charge to you WHEN we can accomodate it. Yes, we understand your project is important to you and you want it NOW: to that we say provide us with a USB hard drive and we will make your project transportable so you can finish it at another studio. If this is not acceptable to you, consider the alternative: you get nothing. So, either be willing to WAIT until we have the time/situation to finish your project/mix, or provide the USB drive, or write the whole thing off as lost. The ARE your only alternatives. Our phone number will be disconnected on April 1st, but we will maintain our email address ONLY to accomodate those project under way. Please don't bother complaining; but you are welcome to contact us to ask for an estimated date of completion. This will only be an ESTIMATE, and again, if this doesn't work for you, review the above statement. The Management
