About Me

Who remembers, "To silence the electric guitar is a crime against the state"?

A Roofing Rocker. Or Rockin' Roofer... David , like the majority of local musicians splits his time between his day gig as a Roofing Contractor and 3 active bands.
David started singing in live bands in 1964 in high school. While in the Navy in 1969, he bought his first guitar and started writing songs. He played out in coffee houses solo, then joined Victor Harrison as a duo called Woebegone in 1973. Victor and David joined with 2 more original artists, Mark Rasmussen and Thomas Schneider to form Forty Fingers in 1974 and played local clubs as sort of a bohemian rock band. In 1979 he formed a punk rock band called The Attitude and toured regionally.

About a year later, after some personnel changes it was re-named the Wet Spots, doing all original punk and alternative rock. In 1982 David formed the Warsaw Falcons to play Rock-a-Billy and Alternative Country Blues..... often used as a back-up band for artists such as Bo Didly and The Drifters as well as sitting in with the legendary Big Joe Duskin.

Having moved the Warsaw Falcons to Nashville in 1990, David joined one of the most popular area bands, Supe and the Sandwiches. This band (led by Michael Supe Granda of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils) was highly acclaimed for the next ten years. Often referred to as the Anti-Garth, a total blues-rockin comedy show, aspects of which are currently ongoing. Meanwhile, the Warsaw Falcons lived on, lasting 20 plus years going through many changes and players, finally playing a form of early jump blues rock, with the nick-name Big Bill Pickle and the Legendary Jerkin' Gherkins. Bobby Keys (the saxophonist for the Rolling Stones) joined the band both on tour and on the album.
Preferring not to cover existing music, David has always used his bands to launch his song-writing. He currently plays guitar and non-pedal lap steel rock-a-billy with the regionally and locally known StarDevils (www.stardevils.com) adding to the songwriting of Lance Kaufman, the founding member.

He also is a founding member of what Rick Bird (of the Cincinnati Post) has called a local Super-Group, The Catalog Cowboys (www.catalogcowboys.com), providing guitar, dobro, lap-steel, accordion and vocals on an entirely original roots rock set list written by himself and members Brian Ewing (Messerly and Ewing) and Scott Risner (Comet Bluegrass All-Stars).

He also recently brought his lap steel prowess to the 2005 CEA award winning country punk rockers "500 Miles to Memphis" (www.500milestomemphis.com), and is loving every minute of all 3 endeavors.
Throughout Davids career he has been touted as a local rock icon. He has used his extensive talents to write, arrange and record his music; lead, book and perform with his bands and arrange showcases and benefits for other groups and artists. And though he has proven himself time and again in the past, his favorite saying is, Ill rest when Im dead!
