The Catalog Cowboys are a band that Rick Bird (of the Cincinnati Post) has called "a local Super Group". Consisting of Brian Ewing (Messerly & Ewing), David Rhodes Brown (Warsaw Falcons, StarDevils, 500 Miles to Memphis), Scott Risner (Comet Bluegrass Allstars), John Schmidt (The Maniacs, Warsaw Falcons, the Flamables) & recently joined by O. yemi Oyediran, they bring over 100 years of combined and diverse musical experiance to the table. Because the music industry has not yet defined their particular genre, they call their music "American Roots Stew", a unique package of Rock, Roots, Folk, Bluegrass, Alternative, and Alt Country. Between them theyve won more than 10 Cincinnati area music awards, played with the likes of R.E.M., Alison Krauss, U2, Bo Didly, Bobby Keys, Paula Cole, The Drifters, Orangie Ray Hubbard, & Big Joe Duskin... just to name a few. Here's whats bein' said:
"Their sound reminds me of down home biscuit eatin rock. And not some lame made for radio bologna. Kelly Thomas who packaged the show says, With both Dave and Brian trading vocals and harmonizing it doesnt get much better. This is one of the single most talented groups of seasoned local musicians you will find. - Music Review-Locals Only.
"Every kind of American music and volume. A rootsy Rockgrass hoedown that burns like a tire fire....Wear something heat resistant." - Mid Point Music Festival Schedule.
"Catalog Cowboys blew my socks off. They had an accordion, a mandolin, my second stand-up bass of the night, and a lap steel. A lap steel! Wait, wait, youre not one of those people who hears mandolin and automatically goes "oh, Bluegrass", or worse yet, "Newgrass", are you? I mean, if you are, then...well, you're just wrong, man. This band is alt-country at its finest. They brought the rock, only they got the rock drunk on moonshine and fed it barbecue, cornbread and greens." - Mid Point Music Festival - Friday Sept 23rd Show Review - Randomville Magazine.
"Holy Shit! I'd like to stop there, because it sums the whole thing up but for those that expect content, read on. There are those that seem to be under the impression that a mandolin or a pedal steel cannot be involved in bringing the rock and I'm sure that the boys in Catalog Cowboys would be glad to shove a stand-up bass down their throat. These five, age-wise probably one of the oldest groups in the fest, tear down the place brick by brick and build it back up again with their alt-country shenanigans." - Mid Point Music Festival - Friday Sept 23rd Show Review - Randomville Magazine.
