About Me

"This liquor and grease-drenched tribute, featuring rockabilly, county-rock, Americana, and punk, has become a rite of spring in the Queen City."

CASH BASH IV by Jeff Hahne
Published 05.02.07
The Deal: Four bands (two local) celebrate Johnny Cash, and play some of his music, too.
The Good: The cats and kittens were out that night. From the first notes of Hick'ry Hawkins to the flying beer ... From the jitterbugging up front to the last growl of the Belmont Playboys, the fourth annual Cash Bash tore through the small Derita venue with a fury. Sure, there were some solid covers -- "Ring of Fire," "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Jackson" among them -- but the originals were just as good. Out-of-towners Rocket 350 and The Bo-Stevens joined in the fray for what amounted to a honky-tonkin', rabble-rousin', grease-and-growl shindig.
The Bad: $1.50 PBR cans, four bands, high energy, a lively crowd, five hours of music ... what could be bad? I'm sorry I missed the pre-party on Friday night.
The Verdict: It's a shame this event is only held once a year, but at least each day we're one step closer to the next one.

The Charlotte Cash Bash is a salute, tribute and celebration of one of the most influential figures in music history...John R. Cash.
Cash Bash I debuted in May 2004 at the world famous Double Door Inn in Charlotte and featured Four-on-the-Floor, The bo-stevens, and The Tombstone Daddys. Each band playing the Bash was (and still are) required to perform at least 2 Cash songs (if they wish to be paid). The crowds were phenomenal so Cash Bash II was forced to relocate to a larger venue.
Cash Bash II was held at Puckett's Farm Equipment in Charlotte in April 2005 and featured Jem Crossland & the Hypertonics, The bo-stevens, and Jimmy & the Teasers. Again, it was such a success that an additional band was added for CBIII.
Cash Bash III was April 15th, 2006 at Puckett's and lived up to the promise of being even bigger and better than ever before. The lineup consisted of the Truckstop Preachers, The bo-stevens, The Straight-8's, The Defilers, and Hick'ry Hawkins (solo act). The show was completely sold out and brought up the possibility of having the 2007 Bash last two days.
