Il Lusciato (Lawrence Krayn) was born in New Jersey to Italian/Irish parents in 1985. He jumped back and forth most of his childhood between his mother and father's households. The change in demographic and culture in the seperate freehold twp/boro neighborhoods created quite a hybrid outlook for him. After a high school career riddled with fights, substance abuse, and life lessons, Illusciato began studying at community college and has since attended William paterson university and Rutgers University as a political science major. During his freshmen year in college he met "DJ DST" who ran a local DJing company and soon the two set off on an endeavor that has since Drastically changed the north/central jersey independent music scene. Initially Il lusciato remained just a producer, but all of the lyrics in his notebook were slowly overflowing. At the behest of DJ DST and close freinds he took on music full force.
Incorporating the sounds he heard on the records as a youth with contemporary rap music, he managed to create essentially an entirely new genre; one that entails spoken word poetry with smooth live jazz playing or sampled beats. Living in the Shadows of Jersey night life, Il Lusciato's image illustrates his experiences working and dealing in the back rooms of gentlemens clubs, the people who are encountered in this sub-econemy, and the over all mood of the night. Any song he writes and/or composes contains meaning, and his love for hip-hop stems from its ability to help one express him or herself.He began to call himself "IL Lusciato", an alias derived from the italian word "liscio" meaning "smoothed" and illusion for the way every smooth delivery is backed by a raw and emotional meaning.
IL Lusciato started producing local rappers with DJ DST at around age 18. After producing many local singles and as executive producer of Crysiz's "The Blessing", he went on to release his debut album, the underground banger The Human Experience , This album contained the club single "Fall with me" - "Fall with me" was released at around the same time myspace took off in late 2004. Combined these tools made il lusciato a household name at the Jersey Shore. The album caught the attention of Infamous hype man "Rhodes The Jump off King", who with his extensive New Jersey social and club connections helped to propel Il Lusciato's music to near total stardom in north/central jersey and parts of New York city.
"The Human Experience" was followed by his second full length album "The Deacon BLues" which was a bit overshadowed by his two hit mixtapes "After Hours Recordings Mixtape Volume 1" and "Il Lusciato presents the Jump Off Crew". Both have SOLD INTO THE THOUSANDS and have circulated throughout New Jersey. These mixtapes also paved the way for il lusciato's appearences at several clubs including The legendary "Stone Pony" in Asbury park, "The Colosseum"(now 35 club/players lounge) in sayreville, After Dark, Bourbon Street, and several local parties and events all over New Jersey.
IL Lusciato is currently working on several projects including his Third LP, and a group project with another acclaimed central Jersey rapper D. Smith and long time track mate Crysiz. His protege A.C. who appears on several tracks including the local hit "Jersey Summer" is also one of il lusciato's key focuses and is working on several projects as well. Be on the lookout for the new LP, White Picket Fence, expected to touch the street Some time in 2008...
