Born a farmer in northern Indiana, Nick spun his way into the DJ life known as DJ Powder. From couch cushions & records to CDJ’s & videos, DJ Powder brings an addition to the game not to be forgotten. This funny, dancing DJ brings the party to life in a whole new way.1992-6th grade Nick started his experiences at The Grange in LaPorte, IN and saw a mobile DJ setup there. Nick was intrigued by the buttons, whistles, and lights the setup had to offer.
-9th grade Highly enjoying the music he now regularly encountered, he and his friends learned to break dance and managed their way into Zero Gravity, a dance club in the Chicago area. United by break dancing & moving closer to the DJ lifestyle, Nick and his three friends became the Rat Pak; Nate, Nick, Mandy, and Matt.
-11th grade After break dancing for 5 years in the club scene, in & out of Zero Gravity, the Rat Pak met Steady B – a DJ who introduced Nick to the DJ way. Nick, reluctantly nicknamed Powder in High School for his pale appearance, used it to his advantage and let it stick: DJ POWDER. Not only this schooling, but listening to the B-96 Mixmasters, Powder knew he could master the hip sound. Inspired, DJ Powder bought his first turntables (Gemini PT400s) in Chicago working with an auctioneer. All through high school while he was break dancing and DJing house parties with the Rat Pak, DJ Powder aggressively perfected his skill, beat matching, his own sound from vinyl & CD. Powder was known to entertain with house music on records. “It’s the authenticity of being a real DJ†– DJ Powder1999-H.S. Grad/Vincennes Freshman Nick, now a house party request & club hopper, he added mobility to his roster. Powder amidst a busy schedule found time for his first DJ residency in adult entertainment in South Bend. DJ Powder, also did guest appearances as DJ at Zero Gravity from time to time, reliving his roots as a novice just years ago. Powder ventured into doing wedding events when performing at a fraternity one evening. Stab, Gordo, and spinning with regionally known Top Speed continued to encourage Powder to make himself official: he was a DJ.
-Graduate/Transfer to Purdue University 10 years into his hobby, Powder began getting serious. While working with another mobile DJ on wedding events, Powder and Steady B DJed at the BoilerRoom, Venos, and Roxy’s (Wax Wednesdays) making sure not to lose the club appeal he had created in himself. DJ Powder began selling himself as Rat Pak Mobile when he dropped doing house parties to focus on wedding & club events.
Nick began investing in Rat Pak Mobile, developing a business structure, obtaining more equipment, and creating contact information. Powder landed DJ spots at Rheile Bros., Petes, Nicks, and the Knickerbocker. Now known around town in major venues and bars, Powder was able to prove experience and growth. All year, Powder collaborated with Steady B hosting club events with headliners and feature DJs Cory James, Paul Anthony, and Shive.
A major move in the industry, Nick claimed Rat Pak Mobile as a sole proprietor, informing people about his business (ratpakdjs.com), and became resident DJ at the Cactus, the largest club in West Lafayette, on Friday nights.
DJ Powder sold himself on his experience and turntablism at bridal shows ensuring a great time at wedding receptions. Nick has also expanded his advertising, spreading the word about Rat Pak Mobile thru phone books, websites, and word of mouth. Powder marveled his way into Fusion (underage club) as the premier DJ, popping in and out of the Vogue in Broadripple, and club Seven in Indianapolis. 2007 also marked the year he’d achieve his lifetime goal: spin with Bad Boy Bill at an event with Alex Peace.
Who knows what’s to come of DJ POWDER and RAT PAK MOBILE, but his passion lies in clubs, parties, receptions, and most of all music. Have a good time or go home...................My name is Nick and I am 28 (Good God please stop), I have a busy but good life, during the day I am an engineer, at night I am a machinist and on the weekends I D.j. for my self, as you can see. I am best known here in Tippecanoe teaming up with such jocks as Steady B. the guy who took the time to show me the basics. My Booking agency is True Soundz Entertainment headed by Mr. Shannon Burton and Peoples DJs headed by Mr. Jeremy Weatherman. I have met the girl of my dreams, we have been together for almost 4yrs (sorry ladies). I got married Sept 2nd, 2006 in Vegas one of the best days of my life. Now the wife and I have a house. I love house music, (but Powder you spin Hip-Hop...) I know I know but as a dj one day you wake up and realize that Hip-hop isn't so bad and more clubs and people need you so I talked to my Technics (turn tables) and told them how it was going to be. And after W.W. I started mixing and scratching Hip-hop. With life just flying by I miss the good old days when $40.00 and a full tank of gas would last us all weekend.
