R-Three , based in northern California, is an independent studio project with a rotating line-up of collaborators centered on the words, music and production stylings of the driving creative force Rhett Redelings.
At the core, the R-Three project is about truth: Finding it, understanding it and telling it, no matter how personal, painful, unfashionable or challenging it may be. Known as much for unusual and genre defying song arrangements as the lyrics in those songs, the music of R-Three is about the inner processes, asking and struggling with the big questions while trying to bring something new, genuine and groovy to the modern musical landscape. Regarding the atypical approach to arrangement that characterizes most R-Three songs, Rhett Redelings had this to say: I believe that we appreciate art when the delivery or presentation of that art jars us and frees us from our preconceptions and expectations just a little bit, so we can experience it for what it is instead of comparing it to our previous experiences. In music, I attempt to do this by making unexpected sound choices, collaborating with artists who are coming from a very different place than I am and by using atypical arrangements, odd time signatures and musical explorations that deviate just a little bit from the pop formula; so long as it serves the song and keeps the energy where it should be. I do this not to be clever, or elitist, or weird but because I believe you can only really appreciate a new experience if it feels both familiar and, at the same time, brand new.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: r3music.com
Band Members: R-Three is singer/songwriter/producer Rhett Redelings who writes most of the words and music and furthermore sings, produces and plays most of the instruments, samples, percussion thingies and loops.
with the exception of (or in addition to) significant contributions from:
Brad Steffen: Keys, treatments, guitars, bass, programming and charter member of the "Without whom..." club. (1997-2004)
Elspeth Golden: Voice (2003-Present)
Bob Gaut: Live drums, song craft and bullet proof professionalism (2000-2001)
Peggy Gill: Voice (1999-2004)and
Dan Catlin - Loops, compositions, arrangements and MRC Records (2001-2003)
Charles Karp: Voice (2003)
Heather Redelings-MacDermott: "Corporate bitch" support vocal ("...Hive")
Erich Tisnado: Bass (1999-2001)
Doug Karpa-Wilson:piano and chatter (2001 & 2006)
Britton Daniel: "Bad weather" guitar (1999)
Matt Aaron: Violin (1999)
and Neil Finn: Samples, loops and inspiration (2000)
Kofi Glover - Bass (1997)
Sid Versaci - Synth arrangments and misc. profundity (1998)

Rhett uses guitars, basses and amplification from Fender , Line 6 and Peavey; sings into microphones from AKG, Audio Technica and Shure, makes plinky sounds on Roland and Korg synthesizers from the '80's & '90's and some modern soft synths 'n samplers and an upright piano and furthermore, records with Digidesign ProTools LE, Sony Acid, Sound Forge, Reason (kinda) and some other stuff.
Plus of which, he collects old speakers and tape recorders and such like that to further munch up sounds and also, he plays an Etherwave Theramin.... badly.
Brad Steffen played a Steinberger Spirit guitar, a Tobias Growler bass, records with Pro Tools LE, Ableton Live and Reason, has used the Kantos software, uses Roland and Korg stuff too and has some other goodies.
Erich Tisnado played a Guild Pilot bass through a Peavey amplifier and a SansAmp DI box (I think).
