Chili Stu

Really, really good music. Really.

About Me

Luke DiFilippo and Jeff Murphy of Chili Stu started writing and recording tunes out of a makeshift studio in Luke's basement back in 2002. This setup gave the pair the freedom to develop a style that blends what they love most in music: long solo sections, experimental arrangements, catchy hooks and an overall sound that doesn't take itself too seriously. Songs like Captain Coke and The Defutz Period were born from these free-form sessions, and are still on the band's live playlist today.
When Luke and Jeff teamed up with drummer Andrew Alexander in the Summer of 2004 to record their first studio album "Groove and You'll be Fine," everything changed. With the capability to perform live, their written music began reflecting their live feel - incorporating improvisation, funky grooves and massive amounts of energy. Over the years of playing live shows in and around Philadelphia, their sound has matured and tightened. Chili Stu fans (commonly referred to as "Stu's") enjoy the funky danceable grooves, odd-yet-natural-sounding time signatures, and catchy vocal hooks, all within an upbeat, positive sound. Chili Stu is also known for putting their own original twist on covers such as Bill Wither's "Use Me," and Dr. John's "Right Place Wrong Time," among others.
Now the journey continues. Chili Stu plays live shows in an around the city of Philadelphia in an effort to spread our sonic goodness. We will see where it takes us. Hopefully somewhere cool...
