About Me

Christ Is Risen! Indeed He is Risen! My name is Gloria and I am a Byzantine Catholic. For those of you who do not understand what a Byzantine Catholic is, I am an Orthodox who is in union with Rome. I am in union with Rome in issues of morality, but my theology is completely Orthodox. I am not a Roman Catholic.I am 75% Ruthenian Slovak and I am 25% Polish. My Baba and Didi on my father's side and my Baba on my mother's side came from the Carpathian Mountains in Eastern Europe and my Didi on my mother's side came from Poland. I am only a second generation American.I want to live out my Byzantine Catholicism as best as I can. I have a lot to learn; I certainly don't claim to know all the answers....I am very intrigued by the book "The Way of A Pilgrim" by Walter Ciszek. I have not read this book yet but I know the gyst of the book and I, too, have always wondered how one can live their lives completely for Jesus yet still stay focused on what they have to do in their lives day to day. I find it difficult because when I stay completely focused on Jesus, then I don't get the things done throughout the day that I'm supposed to, or I get quiet and people will start asking me "What's wrong with you, Gloria? Are you mad?" Then when I get focused on the people around me or I get focused on my daily tasks, I have a tendency to become too involved in the world. So I don't know how to balance this. I'm hoping The Pilgrim will have an answer for me!!! :)Is there anyone out there who can relate to me on this???

My Interests

Byzantine Catholic faith, Orthodoxy, lives of Saints, living the holiest life I can and trying to help all of God's people do the same. I also love spending time with my husband and my mom and dad and my brother. On a secular note, I like most types of music, but I have to be careful what I listen to because I'll catch myself listening to music I shouldn't be listening to because I get too enthralled with the beat.

I'd like to meet:

Jesus, our Holy Theotokos, and all Saints and Martyrs here on earth and in Heaven. I would also like to meet all people who are thirsting to live a holy life and whose ultimate goal is to obtain Heaven one day to be with Jesus forever and ever.

Music:

Orthodox Chant-- I am trying to learn to chant the Kontakions and Troparions. I unfortunately could never be a cantor because honestly I am tone-deaf. I couldn't sing my way out of a paper bag......or I could, but it would sound like a cat dying. I also like old Gospel.

Movies:

Again, I have trouble answering this question because so many movies are too sexually explicit these days. I also can not stand when people curse God's name in vain and act like it's the most normal thing in the world. Sick!!

Television:

"Why Me, Lord" By The Gaither Vocal Band (FULL)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3iy7NcZCEo

This is one of my favorite gospel songs!

Books:

I am currently reading "Father Arseny 1893-1973, Priest, Prisoner, Spiritual Father". I can barely put the book down it is soooo good! The next book I want to read is "The Way of a Pilgrim" by Walther Ciszek.

Heroes:

Saint Mary of Egypt, my husband, my mom and dad, my brothers, Mother Theresa and any other holy saints and martyrs who truly gave their entire lives to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
