Ross Couper

Hello there and welcome to my page.I'm from Voe in the Shetland Islands and I play the fiddle. I went to the Anderson High School in Lerwick where I received fiddle lessons from my mother Margaret Scollay who is the instructor there. For my 6th year I decided that I would apply to Plockton Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music after finding out that I was far too colour blind to become a marine engineer! It was there that I met the people who I play mainly with nowadays in a band called Bodega. After Plockton I decided to apply for a place on the Folk and Traditional music degree at Newcastle University. I'm now coming towards the end of my 3rd year there and it has been very enjoyable so far. I also play sometimes with other bands, one of these is The Park Bench Social Club which I started along with Will Lang and Aidan Curran, who I met on the degree. They now have various people who play with them and I have now taken a kind of back seat with them and mainly fill in when people can't make it. Life is great at the moment playing with the band and all the other people who I have the honour to share music with, in whatever form that may be!Long may it continue.
