See My Sound

sending kaleidoscopic angst into orbit!

About Me

SEE MY SOUND kind of started at the turn of the Millennium. I say kind of because it was in early 2000 that Steve and Mark started recording random riffs and pieces to 4-track, for personal entertainment. MEIN KINDER they were called and they set about recording lengthy stoner prog-excesses that were as unknowingly Krautrock as their name suggests.
Mark didn’t like the name MEIN KINDER - although Steve has recently revived it for his solo noise / improv / experimental work (check more here ).
In early 2001 they became SEE MY SOUND after Steve saw a TV programme that suggested new-born babies could visualise sound. He's now not sure if this is true and it could possibly be a lie that's become truth; like the story they once told a mag that they met as extras on Jimmy Nail's Geordie muso-dectective drama Spender .
Around this time, they also stopped being so stoner and decided to try and write ‘proper’ songs. Songs with verse / chorus / verse structure. Songs that didn’t last more than 2 minutes. Two examples of their work from this period can be found on the now-deleted Distraction sampler, Prise Yourself Loose And Listen .
Despite some positive reviews, immediately following the release of Prise … , Mark and Steve decided that they couldn’t write conventional songs, hated singing (or should I say couldn’t sing) and longed for the unconstrained limitless experimentation that their Mein Kinder noodlings had touched on.
So they started playing around with effects, synths, samples, field recordings, added a drum machine and SEE MY SOUND v2 was born! This led to a handful of un-rehearsed, un-structured live appearances that generally involved a series of undeveloped riffs being played very loudly over random bits of taped noise. The net effect is that it left people scratching their heads and divided opinion. It was time for a change …. again.
They advertised for a drummer and in the Summer of 2003, Chris made the group a trio and SEE MY SOUND v3 evolved. This period saw a rush of activity, better gigs (although we still haven't shrugged off the curse of The Cluny) and things were looking canny. Until the backend of 2005, when a series of personal events that can only be described as 'character building' stalled the band once more. So apart from the odd praccy, 2006 was pretty much written off by doing fuck all.
And now it's 2007. It's still the same line-up, we're back playing live, rehearsing regularly and constantly evolving. What can go wrong ..........?
