About Me

This site may look better in FireFox. But then, what doesn't? :) **
My name is Mike Wood and I am a freelance photographer working in London in South Western Ontario, Canada. I have been doing photography seriously for a few years now and am looking to make it a full time profession as opposed to an occasional side line. As a result, I am always looking for models to work with on personal projects, and those who are interested in gaining some experience with a highly motivated photographer.
I am available to be hired for projects, and I can do standard head shots/portraits, themed photos, fashion, catalog or glamour work, ban promo/ stage photography, real estate or corporate photos, fetish/goth, figure studies/nudes, architectural/ landscape, sports, etc. At this time I don't do many weddings.
If you are a model in the London or SW Ontario area and would like to build your portfolio, I do have some limited time for this and we could work something out.
Model photography is only one aspect of what I shoot, but it is one that I enjoy. Being able to portray those who pose for me in a 'real' way and have the photos stand for themselves is the outcome I like to have. As a result, while I shoot 100% digital, I generally only do a minimum of standard digital darkroom post production, with less emphasis on effects. I also prefer natural light and working outdoors over the constraints of a studio. Black and white is my medium of choice - though this is always negotiable.
I am quite upbeat, positive, and I make everyone at ease in my shoots. Having said that, I will work as hard as possible to get the very best shots every time. My best photo shoots to date have been the ones where the model and myself collaborate, share ideas, and work as a team. I can easily direct new models in a shoot, but I am always open to suggestions and interpretations as well.
I don't have a MUA at my disposal 24/7, but if a model requires some assistance, I can make arrangements. My MUA's rates are very cheap as well, and she does a wonderful job! Equally, if a specific post production effect is needed, I have an excellent GA at my disposal.
Feel free to send an Add request, but with all the bots and web cam fakes, I will probably only add you if you send a quick myspace email along with your request. I am interested in networking with photographers, models, potential clients, and those who like my work or photography in general. If you are a band doing a broadcast to everyone in Myspace and you are in Kuala Lumpur, I probably won't add you. :)

My Interests

Photography! Whether it is fashion, glamour, nudes/figure studies, photojournalism, portraits and portraiture, landscape, street photography, or sports action, I like photography. Being behind the lens and improving my craft is where it is at for me...

Travelling: In the past few years I have sailed on a tall ship off the coast of California, drove through the Mojave desert, and visited Key West by hydrofoil. I shook hands with an astronaut and most recently I went on a long road trip to the top end of Newfoundland and back. Oh yeah, and I once hiked into and out of the Grand Canyon
Exploring and going off the beaten path - with camera of course - is a new found passion.

I'd like to meet:

Anyone. :)

Henri Cartier-Bresson, James Natchtwey, Gilles Bensimon, Karsh, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Annie Leibovitz, Ansel Adams, Margaret Bourke-White, Edward Weston, Robert Capa...

and of course Lance Armstrong.

I have lots of friends and acquaintances, but only a very few people whom I would call close friends. But when you are a good friend of mine, it is a long lived friendship for sure. I am interested in meeting new people. And not just people who are not afraid of having their picture taken. :)

Music:

No spcific genre. My interests change too much. As long as it is good and played well count me in. I don't play, and you don't want me singing.

Television:

The West Wing, Star Trek: TOS/DS9/VGR/NG/E. Disappointed Enterprise was cancelled. Really got into it. CNN, well news in general. The Apprentice, The various CSI's, Studio 60, Amazing Race, Mythbusters, Stargate, Dr. Who, Deadliest Catch. I PVR everything to skip the commercials. I spend less time infront of the TV now, and more shooting pics, planning sessions or editing and uploading my own shots.
