PRESS QUOTES...
UNCUT [Dec./04’]**** 4/5 "This solo debut is crammed with classy naked city observations like the magical opener ‘Vicki and Jacky’ and the epic ‘Walk all Over Downtown Life’. With a musical talent to match his ear for detail. Roth slips Mellotron, loops and Farfisa in between some richly arranged songwriting… If Bob’s voice is eerily reminiscent of Syd Barrett, the notes and nuances are highly original." [-Max Bell]
DIW "… a truly timeless creation, Roth’s work overwhelms listeners one moment, then pacifies them in starkly bare passages seconds later. It echo’s nearly every great blast of sound from the past 50 years, not in the order of it’s chords, but in it’s ability to shake listeners from their complacency." [-Adam Lauridsen]
CLASSIC ROCK-UK **** 4/5 "…a gem with elbows, it’s dream-like songs jostling lesser records aside. If you like your rock arty, inventive and committed, this barbed beauty will thrill and charm you." [-James Halbert]
THE INDEPENDENT-UK " …a dark, textured and experimental outing stamped with great guitar work." [-Tim Perry]
BIG TAKEOVER “Robert Roth re-introduces himself to the world with an amazingly strong and cohesive solo album. Dark and moody rock and roll that pulses with an almost psychedelic sexuality… Roth’s vocals seduce with a strange and passionate wisdom. [-Marcel Feldmar]
SHORT BIO...
Robert Roth's solo debut on Pattern 25 Records continues to expand upon the sonic frontiers he previously claimed as the singer-guitarist-composer-producer of Seattle's widely acclaimed Truly (Sub Pop, Capitol)
The album, "Someone, Somewhere...", is a richly satisfying and uncompromising statement of artistic dedication. His soulfoul drawl and soaring melodies weave together washes of haunted guitars, mellotron-soaked soundscapes, and warped orchestral passages into an ageless epic.
In addition to his work with Truly, Robert contributed Mellotron to Built To Spill's "Perfect From Now On", & co-wrote songs with author/musician Jim Carroll for Mercury Records "Pools of Mercury" and Kill Rock Stars "Runaway EP". He also played beside Carroll in a string of live dates between '98 and 2000. Robert Roth and his band have been playing North West dates regularly and toured the North East U.S. A single is in the works to be recorded for Flotation Records this Spring of 2006. More live dates & tour TBA soon.
