About Me

MyGen Profile Generator Fraction have split up and the members are currently pursuing musical projects of their own. Thank you to anybody who showed some interest in the band, and especially to those who helped us out along the way. The talented, kind, humble people stand out like a sore thumb - we don't forget you. So a massive 'fuck you' goes out to all the discourteous, unreliable, bullshitting, disrespectful bastards that we have had the displeasure of meeting/playing with/dealing with along the way - you are scum. Especially the Cazals! :) Fuck you!
History:
Manchester’s ‘Valve’ released the ‘Station’ E.P. on Rob Gretton’s Pleasure Records in 2001, but were to split a couple of years later when guitarist Graham Walsh left the band.
With the recruitment of guitarist and Valve fan Toby Gawne came a new direction and a new band, as the old melancholy sound was complemented by grittier and more experimental compositions. The result of this change was FRACTION.
FRACTION took influence from U.S. indie acts such as Pavement, Pixies and Elliott Smith, in addition to local heroes Joy Division and The Smiths; and with 3 members of the band all possessing their own very different songwriting styles, the band’s output was compelling and varied.

"Cue Fraction and we experience a bigger, fuller but still subtle sound, that cues up trademark Mancunian atmospherics with compelling melodies and sweeping, orchestrated epics. They have the feel of Elbow but avoid any direct comparisons with a rockier, possibly more direct edge." - manchestermusic.co.uk
" 'Ships Will Wreck' is an enticing four minutes of fractured elegance. It's Radiohead at peace with the world, delicate harmonies whispering us to sleep while guitars and xylophones tip-toe by taking care not to break the slumber..." - soundsofthecity.org

" 'I Wouldnt Mind' grinds along with a quirky, slingback shake of guitars and almost operatic layered vocals. Simple effective ideas seem soft, but have a determination as hard as stone hidden in the centre. Things build into a thrusting crescendo driven by a short sharp rattle of guitars. Easy stuff well done. Excellent." - manchestermusic.co.uk
