About Me

For as long anyone can remember he has said he’d do it. As a kid on the estates of Shepherds Bush he said, watch me, I’ll be up on stage one day, performing my own songs.Never doubted it.Some of his peers laughed, others nodded, but most were sceptical.Well, they aren’t sceptical anymore. Over the past two years, the buzz about Darron J Connett can no longer be ignored. The voice cannot be denied. It reminds some of early Elvis Costello, others Marc Bolan or Gruff Rhys Jones, only somehow more refined. It has the sound of a swagger in it that had him described as an upbeat Morrisey by the UK’s biggest selling tabloid. The body of music he has written, both old and new, is gaining so much attention, it just cannot be ignored. His song writing captures sublimely and effortlessly stories of London council estate urban living in a way that only Dickens could match, fusing the contemporary with the classic. The lineage going from Davies, Weller, Albarn and now Connett. His varied and eclectic influences range from luminary artists like Scott Walker, John Holt, Oasis, The Kinks and Elvis, as well as Kasabian, Hard-Fi and The Enemy.Summer 2006 saw the release of a new double A side single on Mono Media Records which featured the songs “Soul Clean” and “Ego Ascending” - both big favourites from Darron’s live shows. The single was only available on limited edition 7" vinyl, the five hundred copies selling out quickly. The song “Soul Clean”, an Indie/Soul hybrid, is a constant on the dance floors of Mod/Indie nights and Soul do’s around the UK, spun by those DJ’s who know a great underground tune when they hear it.The single also achieved air play on radio stations around the world including the UK, America, Japan, Croatia and Argentina....The band made it’s full live debut performing at The Clapham Grand in August ‘06, whilst being filmed by Japanese TV.Media acclaim has come from Time Out, The Sun, The Observer, Q Magazine, Scootering Magazine, BBC London and a host of independent music magazines.Darron’s distinctive dapper Indie style and look soon attracted interest from the fashion world. His main supporter is UK footwear company Ikon and he also has associate clothing deals with Fred Perry, Umbro by Kim Jones and Merc London.Darron and the band embarked on the Onwards and Upwards Tour 2007 in January with a gig at the famous Liverpool venue, The Cavern. That has been followed at prestigious venues around the UK including The Carling Academy Islington, main stage at Brightona, Brighton, two outdoor gigs on Carnaby Street, The Water Rats, The Marquee, and two sold out headlining dates at the 100 Club on Oxford Street.July 2007 saw the release of the Onwards and Upwards 4 track EP, which sold out it’s initial release of 1000 copies in two weeks. The demand was so high, a second issue followed quickly.2008 see's the band Connet launched. This is Darron and his new collaborator Glen Fuller. So, new line up, new songs and a fresh outlook, which includes Darron also working with well known DJ and recording artist Richard E.This is what the Noughties wants and deserves. This is the sound track of the new millennium. Major Tom has come back down to earth in the guise of Darron J Connett.Bowie would be proud… Try and keep up eh?For bookings and press, please contact Bax at Mono Media at [email protected] / 07967 290 150Original Ikon are the main sponsor of ConnettDarron sporting a pair of Bowling Shoes from the new Ikon A/W range.Guitarist Glen, fully Ikon'ed up, boots and scarfThree Stroke Clothing - Sponsors of Connett
