Q: Are you really from Birmingham, Alabama?
A: Yes! Born and raised there, and still there.
I've been "making beats" since I was 13, but became serious as a producer in college (2001). Contributing to the rising underground/independent Christian Hip Hop movement. Guys were looking for beats and I was making them...tripped out to find that the sounds they were hearing were created by a "girl".
Growing up in Birmimgham, AL were I was exposed to a diverse genre of music, I was especially intrigued by Hip Hop, Jazz, Soft Rock, Gospel, and Electronica. I think because of this, my sound is fused with those elements, and you hear the abstractness in my music. Some say that my music is like me, enigmatic. I guess so! I am a "crate diggah", there is so much wonderful and timeless music that the world has not heard or ignored. Finding those are like treasure to me... So I'm always at yard sales, record stores, in the dollar bins, etc.
Im finding lately that I'm being compared to other producers. I've heard that I'm the next "female-so-and-so!" While I do look at those comparisons as motivators to push myself, to some day reach the heights those pioneers have reached, I'm not trying to be like them or copy them...I have my own style, because of the influences (i.e. J Dilla, Madlib, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Ali Shaheed Muhammad) you may hear some similar elements. Im a rebel in the movement for more female entrepreneurs, producers, artist, writers, djs, and poets who will pave the way for other women using originality, skills, intelligence, creativity, individualism, confidence, and not sex!
And soo what that I'm a woman who makes beats/produce...Oh well, dont be surprised!

"The chaos on this planet is due to the music that musicians are playing, that they are forced to play by some who just think of money and don't realize that music is a spiritual language and it represents the people of earth. When musicians are compelled to play anything, it goes straight to the throne of the Creator of the Universe, and that is how He sees you, according to your music. Because, see, music is a universal language and what you cause musicians to play, that's what goes straight to the Creator as your personal ambassador and personal nemesis" -Sun Ra .
“I say, play your own way. Don’t play what the public want — you play what you want and let the public pick up on what you doing — even if it does take them fifteen, twenty years.†- Thelonius Monk____________________________________________________________
