These slaughters take place in fishing towns including Taiji, Iki, Ito, Futo and Izu. During those months, Japanese fishermen herd whole families and pods of dolphins, porpoises and small whales into shallow bays and mercilessly hack them to death. Most of these small cetaceans are sold as meat in restaurants and stores, while some are destined for a life in captivity. In addition to the small cetaceans being massacred on the beaches, Japan kills approximately 100,000 more marine mammals (primarily Dall’s porpoises and also dolphins) in its fishing industry. This killing must stop!Sea Shepherd has been in the forefront of fighting against the slaughter of dolphins, whales and all marine wildlife for over 25 years, and we are committed to ending the barbaric and senseless slaughters in Taiji and other villages in Japan.
CANADIAN SEAL SLAUGHTER.Canada's commercial seal "hunt" is the largest mass slaughter of marine mammals in the world. This year, Canada will allow 270,000 harp seals to be killed.Canada's 2006 quota for killing seals: 325,000 for the regular commercial "hunt" and an additional 10,000 harp seal allowance for new aboriginal initiatives, personal use, and Arctic hunts. As usual, the commercial quota was exceeded, resulting in over 330,000 seals being kiilled.During the previous three years, the government of Canada delivered the death sentence to over one million baby harp seals.Sea Shepherd continues to oppose this annual obscenity called a "hunt." It is not a hunt because the sealers simply walk up to the seals (who have no means of escaping or hiding) and bash the seals on the head or shoot them.Sea Shepherd, known for direct action, has and continues to use other methods to fight to bring the "hunt" to a permanent end. In 2005, Sea Shepherd joined many other organizations in promoting the international boycott of Canadian seafood products as a means to strip the commercial seal "hunt" of all economic value and force it, by financial means, to end. The Boycott of Canadian Seafood targets the very people who slaughter the seals: It is the fishing industry that runs the seal "hunt" which is a make-work project for off-season fisherman.Sea Shepherd believes the following about the Canadian seal slaughter:The slaughter of seals is incredibly cruel (a post mortem survey has shown that 42% of these babies are skinned alive)
It is a threat to the survival of the species
It is a threat to the survival of cod
It is a slaughter done mainly for unessential, vanity, and luxury items, and therefore, is unnecessary
It is unethical to slaughter newborn seal pups (About 95% of the seals to be slaughtered are babies less than four weeks old)

WHALING IN JAPAN, NORWAY, ICELAND AND THE FAROE ISLANDS.In 1986, the International Whaling Commission (IWC) enacted a moratorium on all commercial whaling. Since then, three nations – Iceland, Norway, and Japan – have brutally slaughtered over 25,000 whales under the guise of scientific research and for commercial purposes. The IWC does not have the capacity to enforce the moratorium. Sea Shepherd, guided by the United Nations World Charter for Nature, is the only organization whose mission is to enforce these international conservation regulations on the high seas.
Norway's activities are in direct violation of the moratorium established by the International Whaling Association (IWC) in 1986 that prohibits commercial whaling activities. This year, another violation was committed. Norway is allowing the hunts to take place without a government inspector aboard to monitor that the kills with explosive-tipped harpoons are humane. The whale meat is consumed by Norwegians but the blubber is considered worthless. The Norwegian whaling association has destroyed hundreds of tons of stockpiled blubber. This year the whalers have been ordered to dump the fatty blubber back into the ocean.Norway has engaged in illegal killing of whales since 1986. That is the year that the IWC invoked a global moratorium on commercial whaling.Whereas Japan sneaks around pretending to kill whales for "scientific research," the Norwegians have blatantly defied the moratorium with commercial hunting. Like Japan, they have raised their own quotas year after year.Unfortunately, the member nations of the IWC have refused to sanction Norway . The United States has refused to uphold the Packwood-Magnuson Act and the Pelly Amendment against Norway. As a result, Norway is now engaged in an illegal mass slaughter of these intelligent and social animals.Above the Japanese slaughter a mother minkie whale and her calf.Japan - A Whale Killing Nation
The Japanese whaling fleet, under the deceitful title of "scientific whaling," kills hundreds of whales each year in
the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary and in the North Pacific.Iceland's Ministry of Fisheries has granted permits for the killing of nine endangered fin whales and 30 piked whales (aka Minke whales).Iceland now joins Norway and Japan as the world’s three rogue whaling nations. Iceland has become the North Korea of whalers displaying complete contempt for international conservation law and total disrespect for conservation and world opinion. The Faeroe Islanders slaughter long- and short-finned pilot whales in the Faeroe Islands in the country's annual, brutal whale "drives."
Between 2,000 and 3,500 pilot whales are corralled by men in boats and forced into bays in this North Sea Danish Protectorate. The animals are trapped in the shallow waters. The islanders gaff the marine mammals with spears and slaughter them by severing the whales' spines with long knives. The whales are stoned, speared, stabbed, slashed, and clubbed by people in a festive atmosphere. This slaughter is particularly gruesome since the killing is conducted as a community sporting event with young children often participating in the killing of the visibly and audibly terrified whales. The hunt is done because of tradition and the absurd belief by the Faeroese that God gave the whales to the people to be slaughtered.China, Korea are notorious for taking "our" companion animals, treating them cruel & inhumane until they are boughten, sold or just skinned alive to be eaten or just for it's fur... Please help to STOP this insane madness and torturous cruelty to dogs & cats.
