alternative rock with soul. it is to be found in the city of ede, the netherlands, where in the fall of 2000 nuclear playground sees the light. in a house on the corner of a street on one of the slight hills of ede, the band members lock themselves in their rehearsal place and lay the foundations of the passionate alternative rock music they want to bring to the world. on these foundations the band builds a repertoire of songs that are real, honest, to the point and catchy.
nuclear playground is energetic, and blows you away with solid rock songs. yet nuclear playground is also fragile in melancholic ballads that take you to another place. with jeff buckley, U2, radiohead and incubus in mind, the band creates a sound in which the melodic sides of rock and the rough sides of pop make a fortunate compromise. the band is ambitious and currently has two main goals: make good music and play on stage anywhere they can.
in 2000 the band is found by fourteen–year–old students from ede that are taking part in a high school talent show. after this performance the guys decide to stick together. the following years are mainly spent in the rehearsal place. in fall 2004 the band is formed to its present state.
in november 2004, the four young men win the butterfly award (a prize for upcoming talent), a small fire starts to burn. numerous gigs in venues, cafés and festivals are following. in june 2005 the band releases its first ep ‘invisible‘, containing five songs. in no time 300 copies are sold.
in the meantime nuclear playground is playing about fourty shows a year in venues like paard van troje, atlantis, bitterzoet, tivoli, goudvishal and at the flevo festival. also they gain some airtime on national radio 3fm. besides that the band is attracting national press and several magazines.
autumn 2006 brings nuclear playground a manager, menno zweers, who is taking the band to a higher level.
In the summer of 2007 the band is going international, they visit stockholm, sweden, where they perform on the UNG08 festival.
who knows what‘s in store for nuclear playground. the band is diving into deep and looks forward to the things that are about to come.
