THE BAND – four persons and a computer.
PUNK SOUL LOVING BILL are from Bielefeld, Germany. They formed in early 2002 and have recorded on almost every Saturday afternoon ever since. Daniel and Jana usually do the vocals (letting the other boys dash in a few words here and there), Sacha plays the Roland Juno-60 synthesizer while Matthias plays the guitar in a rather minimalist NEU! kind of way. Matthias does also the arranging and producing of the songs on his IBM personal computer.
THE MUSIC – DIY but do it.
PUNK SOUL LOVING BILL have released 3 CDs and a vinyl EP. The later has been produced by the Bielefeld label GIVE US YOUR MONEY, but the former have been produced, designed and sold by the band members themselves.
The first CD PUNK SOUL LOVING BILL AND THE ROD TAYLOR BODY DOUBLE MERCHANDISE is a collection of the best 29 songs recorded in the band’s first 6 months. This is how they do it all the time: texts and music are conceived independently. On Saturday afternoon the band tries to put the two together. But this should not take too long – if nothing good emerges in about 30 minutes a new idea, some new text and music, gets its time.
KAISERWETTER was released in 2004. New software and new instruments brought new sounds into the music. This is much more in the face, friends of the band say. Thank you and why not, the band replies.
2004 was also the year of KAISERWETTER EP. A 10†vinyl containing 5 songs from KAISERWETTER plus a new instrumental.
2005 was the year of INDUSTRIE. 8 new songs on CD. PUNK SOUL LOVING BILL have added some Dub elements to their music. And hey: they have added some NEW ORDER guitars, too.
All in all the band has recorded about 210 songs to Matthias’ hard disk. But, since more is more, they want more and well: it is so much fun conceiving other band names and identities (call them hyper-authentic) which you may find on their web page.
LIVE – Looks good, sounds good. Feels good, too.
PUNK SOUL LOVING BILL are quite impressive on stage. Every song gets its own VIDEO which the four BILLS film and cut so as to enhance the effect of the music. Combine this with four persons performing in white suits and simply enjoy. People tend to like it a lot. Some say it is arty, PUNK SOUL LOVING BILL say: Well, we just like media.
