About Me

First things first...my music show is on Tuesday Nights 11pm-1am eastern on www.wrir.org or 97.3FM in Richmond. My AIM screen name is wrirdjDustin. Ok, so, what about me? Seems to be the question of my life, i suppose. So in case you don't know me (and if you don't...not to pry, but how the hell did you end up here?), I'm kinda in a period of transition in my life--a cliche, yes, but I guess it's the way it should always be right? I mean otherwise, you're in a rut. Or maybe you are doing exactly what you want to be doing; in which case, congrats! But for me, anyway, I'm continuing my life-long quest to do any and everything that I've always wanted to do. Here are some things that I've tried: I was a chef/cook for about 15 years. I loved it, but HAD to leave it... A few years ago I helped build a radio station. I am very proud of this achievement... Among the many things I've done with the radio station, I was the star reporter/producer for a radio newsmagazine show. Last election, I even got to contribute to the natonal network feed (that means I went coast to coast!)... I also have done voice-over work for a series that has gone international... I've lobbied Senators and the FCC in DC... I've landed a job as a Communications Technician for Comcast (not just your old cable guy anymore!), thus ending my long tenure chained to a stove... I am a DJ at the above-mentioned radio station. Hey, It's cool and it's fun!... So where am i headed next? The short answer? I dunno. The long answer contains mixed metaphors and pinings for Cincinnatus-like greatness/humility, so i will not go into it now. Headed to VCU next...maybe I'll get back into Jounalism or even PR...Who knows? Suffice to say that my story ain't over yet. More about me: I am always a little sad inside. I don't get hungry--ever. I wish there were still milkmen. I own and use a Fountain Pen. I know a little bit about everything. I know a lot about very few things. I've almost died. I overcompensate for my once-crippling shyness by forcing confidence. Everything is my fault. I come from a huge family that I miss terribly. I make up for this by loving/treating all of my friends like family. I'm corny, hokey, and old fashioned. I've accomplished almost everything I've really tried to do. It is rare that I REALLY try to accomplish things. I am a taoist. I believe in God, but I'm not sure which one. I also actually believe in demigods (curse you, Vulcan!) My true love is my love of learning. I've met a bunch of famous people. I'm kinda famous (by google standards), but not as famous as a bunch of other Dustin Richardsons. I never lie on purpose. The last item is true. I think the worst thing to be is a hippocrite. I have trouble spelling sometimes. I am proud of who I am. I wonder if that makes a difference. I do not fear death. I'm always kinda happy inside, too.

My Interests

My, god...Everything! I once spent a whole week reading the entire archives of www.straightdope.com when i had the flu. But special attention goes to films, writing, food (with particular focus on culinary anthropology), etymology, theoretical physics, all things radio, history, civil rights and social justice, theology, music (and history of), art (and art history), politics, and people.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet the man (or woman) that invented sun dresses. Goddam. But as far as like, y'know, the whole 'meeting someone special' thing goes, well you're too late. I done found me the best girl ever. (and I bet she'd look better than you in a sun dress!)You are 91% a Richmonder!

Ok. Your score should be 100%. Why not? I know why. You are a Richmonder, but you left. Maybe you went away for college and never came back, or maybe you went to St. Catharines or Collegiate and never had the benefit of a public school education. Private school kids: Refresh your memories with a dinner at The Tobacco Company and a cup of coffee in Shockoe slip; Public school kids: Grab a brew at Richbraw and take your Jeep for a root.

How Richmond Are You?

Music:

Yeah, like BOPST says. I only like one kind of music: The good kind. For a small sample, see my friends list.

Movies:

To be amazed by genius, Citizen Kane. For entertainment purposes, Casablanca never lets me down. Also anything by Capra or Hitch, about half of the Coen Bros. flicks, and just for fun, silly British movies like Pink Panther or the occaisional sappy Sandler/Barrymore movie.

Television:

If I'm watching TV, it's almost always either the news, the fake news, the history channel, or some really good HBO series that I've foolishly let myself get sucked into. .. width="425" height="350" ..

Books:

Anything by Hammet. Anything by Fitzgerald. Catch-22. Poe. Anything by David Simon, Richard Price, yeah Bill Shakespeare, too.

Heroes:

Rennaissance people. Leonardo da Vinci, Orson Welles, Poncaire, Voltaire, Socrates (pronounced SO-krayts), Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin. Geniuses. Einstein, Lennon, Jesus, Lao Tsu, the guy that invented Wacky Wall Walkers. Shining examples of the best of humanity. My mother and Jimmy Carter.
