I'd like to meet:
I like em strong dark and bitter. add sauce and serve cold. melodramatic whiners need not apply.
Music:
weakness for britpop, indie rock, lots of 80's bands, but the true me is a die-hard Clash, Hefner, Damned, Jam, Spoon, Doves, and traditional middle-eastern music fan.
Movies:
I like em' dark. Clockwork Orange, Delicatessen and trainspotting are amongst my faves. Then again if they are silly and Scottish (gregory's girl) I love them too. Recently I have been deeply disappointed in all dramas and have vowed to watch only documentaries & stupid teen comedies. I am thinking now that it's this annoying dogma crap started by that self-obssessed fuckwit Lars Von Trier and all his danish cohorts that think they are taking a bold new step in film-making by presenting us with 90 minutes of shaky camera, poor sound, bad lighting, and only-half sketched storeies and characters...It's not all the Danes, the french have leaked some real steaming turds of late- check out the "piano teacher" ugh....I was talking to my French friend about it, and all he had to say, in a loud but disgusted tone...Ohhhh the french, they make such UGLY films" and he stormed off in a huff. I'm all about pushing an envelope, but please, stop the wanking, I don't care about your artistic vision if it means I have to sit through another one of your wanking director torture pieces. fuck it- leave me with Harold and Kumar and sean of the dead. Now if you want to talk about documentaries---then that is a different story. Love em. Try the ncie dark slice of american life "stevie" or "the true meaning of pictures" or- even more disturbing and fascinating- "capturing the friedmans" that's all for now, thank you for letting me rant.
Television:
My new all time fave: "peep show" on BBC. Others: Twin Peaks, Daily show, Six feet Under. The other dark secret is that I can't get enough of the "blood spatter experts" on the forensic shows. Perhaps I missed my calling- how sick adn hilarious is it that someone's job is analysing blood spray patterns? It's probably only my weakness in math skills that kept me away from this career field and turned me into a radio chick.
Books:
again, this is where I have turned to the dark side of pulp mysteries and utter mindless crap. I read while bartending, but people kept interrupting me and asking for martinis. So, while I have a brief moment or while I am stuck in a line somewhere or waiting for anything, i carry around crappy mysteries to keep me from getting too impatient. Otherwise, I love travel narratives, Natsume Soseki, and lots of post-colonial fiction. I am addicted to music magazines.Ahh but now I am no longer tending bar, & maybe I can read a good book for once.
Heroes:
Jon Stewart is the greatest american alive. otherwise, my affections change daily. I despised her politics, but Margaret Thatcher is pretty impressive. i don't have much to say on this subject. Whoever invented the special effects line of hair dyes is to be commended. Also, the person or persons who first thought of cultivating cocoa beans should be worshipped as a god.
