Modeling, to me, isn 't just about being good-looking or having a lot of fun and being really, really good-looking. The original Greek word for model
means "misshapen ball of clay" and I try to think about that every
time I get in front of a camera.
I recently opened the "Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good, and Who Want to Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too". I think it's pretty neat, but, um...it's...it's a fire hazard, or that's what Fire Marshall said. He's a pretty cool dude.
I decided I wanted to be a model the first time I went through the second grade. I caught my reflection in a spoon when I was eating cereal, and I remember thinking to myself, "Wow! You're ridiculously good-looking. Maybe you could do that for a career!" So I did.
I have four looks. There's Blue Steel, which is an old classic. Then there's Ferrari, which is a look I mostly save for my more aggresive shoots. There's also La Tigra, which is a softer look. I use it for footwear sometimes. Then there's Magnum, which I only recently unveiled. I haven't quite tamed it yet, though.
