At an age where most people are uncertain about their life's career, Josh Owen's professional lifespan can already be measured in twin digits. That might be part of the reason that his first album, Runnin' From the Daylight (Preston Records), seems so self-assured.
Produced by brash country-rocker and songwriter Jack Ingram, Runnin' From the Daylight takes the opportunity to showcase Josh's budding songwriting skills, including rockers like the title track (co-authored with Ingram) and the Springsteen-esque road song Burn Rubber along with more introspective offerings such as You're Out of Sight, the tongue-in-cheek tell-all I Wont Say Any Names, and the you-got-a-problem-with-that Lone Star anthem Native Texan. The disc also features a duet between Josh and Jack Ingram on Rusty Wier's unofficial Texas anthem, Don't It Make You Wanna Dance.
To hear Josh tell it, Ingram was a natural fit to sit behind the board on the Runnin From the Daylight sessions. "It's not like he and I do the same thing at all," Josh says, "but the type of music he plays appeals the most to me out of anyone performing today. We're from different generations, but were both big Merle Haggard fans."
Jack Ingram says, "Josh has enough talent to fill the dancehalls of Texas and beyond for years to come. His songs are strong. His guitar playing is stellar. He's just getting started on the scene and I think he's going to be a big part of the future of it."
Starting June 1st, Josh will assume the lead guitar position for Honeybrowne, while playing acoustic shows weekly as well as occasional full band shows.
