Is Your Band Looking For A Record Label

About Me

Oblivion Records
The “business of music” is changing everyday. There was a time when the “major labels” had such a strangle hold on things that an independent record label didn’t have a prayer. No more.
In the past, as consumers, we were all captive to the major labels and their massive marketing machines and distribution networks. Even aspiring, original artists were doomed to a life of musical obscurity without a ticket to major label land.
We are now enjoying a level of access to music of all kinds, like never before. Just think about what your ability to pull up an Artists website or Myspace and download a song off his latest CD has done to the big boys. You talk about leveling the playing field! (Can I get an Amen). That of course is where Oblivion Records comes in.
In my bio, ( Jim Wallis Myspace ) I talk about being a songwriter. As a writer, it is easy for me to relate to, whatever it is in us, that makes us want to record our stuff. Having the facility to record in combination with being sympathetic to people who are musically creative is a dangerous combination. If you come by my office and play some music for me, and it’s obvious to me that what I am hearing is the real deal, I’m gonna want to record it as much as you do.
Remember when you visited Signature Studio Myspace , I said that 80% of all start-up studios ventures fail within the first 24 months because expenses kill them before they can put themselves in the black. That same statistic is true relative to Independent record labels. 80% fail. Why? The cost of producing their products!!! Namely studio time. Follow me here…..Oblivion Records owns Signature Studio and Signature Studio is a debt free asset of the record company. GET IT? Here’s what that means. If I hear something that I really like, I might be able to help. I am not a big time operator and I do not have money to burn but…if I’m sold and you’re willing to stick your neck out, I am too.
Does Oblivion Records have a massive marketing machine? No. Do we have a huge distribution network? Nope. In view of what was said up in paragraph three, do we really need them? It really all depends on your goal. If you’re looking for fame then you probably ought to pursue a major label. But if you’re that Artist that is going to be an Artist no matter what , then fame is really not your motivation anyway. For you Oblivion Records might be worth checking out.
