BIOGRAPHY
- Formation -The Swiss death metal band SOULLESS was formed by Stéphane Grand in 1989 in Lausanne, Switzerland. The band had been inspired by that country's flourishing death metal scene (bands like Morbid Angel, Entombed, Death, and Obituary).
- Early Days (1996 - 2002) -
The first stable lineup was Fabrice (Drums), Mic (Guitar), Loïc (Bass) and Steph (Guitars/Vocals) and the first demo "Lost Hopes" was recorded in 1996 in the BBM Studio, Lausanne (Switzerland).
One year later, the album "Life Extinction" released. This album was recorded at the Bagdad Studio with Stéphane Tornare and this album was based on some musical experimentations (include female vocals on backend). After several gigs around Switzerland and France, the band built its own studio and spent a lot of time to record the next album. The band's next release was "New Era" which came out only five later (2002) on the label Timeless productions and had a more athmospheric influence, still with female voices.
- Demise -
After many years and three albums together, the band decided to stop the project due a different vision and musical objectives between band members. Stéphane played with the french band Furia until 2007 and still is guitarist session for the swiss band Eversince. Fabrice has now a new project and Mic started another one. Loïc joined the death-metal band Your Own Decay in 2001 during the recording session of New Era to have more opportunities to play some concerts.
- Back to the roots! -
In January 2008 it has been confirmed by Stéphane Grand that the band is officially "back to the roots" with a new lineup; Stéphane (Vocals, Guitars - also session guitarist of Eversince), Pelthor (Guitars - Your Own Decay), Loïc (Bass - Arkhan, Your Own Decay) and Paul (Drums).
The new album "In the Maze of Darkness" was self-product (recorded) and mixed/mastered by Chris Butticaz (Arkhan's guitarist). This demo released in May 2008, only four months after the reformation of the band and contains 7 tracks, which a remix of the popular tracks from their former albums Lost Hopes and Life Extinction. The main differences are the sound (they play down-tuned guitars) which is more heavier and "swedish", all rhythmics are more current oriented and the lineup has changed... But the band really wants to keep this old-school soul with harmonized lead, fast tempos and traditional death-metal vocals.
The promo campaign has already started with several gigs planned, whith the first part of Hate Eternal and Cephalic Carnage...
