SLEEPWALKER FEVER.... A MOVIE OF OUR TIME... A COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE BAND SENDELICA AND FILM MAKER GRANT WAKEFIELD.......THE STORY AND THOUGHTS OF SLEEPWALKER FEVER....... PETE BINGHAM: “After finishing the recordings of the Spaceman Bubblegum album in early 2007 their was the usual feeling of being in limbo waiting for the album to be released in the autumn. To fill the time I started doing some home recordings and pretty soon the whole band was involved and a few guest musicians trundled to the studio and suddenly an album was forming. In the meantime we had approached Pauls brother Grant to see if he would be interested im doing some footage we could use as back projections at our live shows and inevitably the project turned into a fully fledged movie with the new material forming its soundtrack. Musically SleepWalker Fever was an exploration of hope and despair...a look at beauty, both man made and natural and the effect, both in a positive and negative way, that homo sapiens has had on its surroundings. The opening track gives a knowing nod to Funkadelic’s classic ‘mother earth’ tale ‘Maggot Brain’ and set the tone for the albums ambience. I decided not to discuss the albums feel, ambience or meaning with Grant and from seeing the first five minutes of his first ‘work in progress’ reel I knew he had already subconsciously jacked into the whole ethos of SleepWalker Fever... To Create is indeed a divine experience..... We all hope you enjoy the experience.................................................. ..................................GRANT WAKEFIELD: "My brother Paul has been in a lot of bands. And a year and a half or so ago he tells about this new outfit he's joined. The first thing that strikes me is that I like the name. And the second thing that strikes me is that I like the album. SPACEMAN BUBBLEGUM was recorded in pretty much two single studio sessions. And if it's as good as this in such a short space of time as this, then SENDELICA are a band who are clearly going places. He calls me and says: hey, can you make us a video for our ambient album and for gig visuals? I say sure, and the audio for SLEEPWALKER FEVER arrives. And again it's good. I start to get ideas, and delve into the increasingly large archive of timelapse shots I've been doing over the past two years. A couple of dozen late nights, hard core rendering, and one dead hard drive later the film is complete. Featuring out-takes from the sessions I shot for PORCUPINE TREE's FEAR OF A BLANK PLANET tour, as well as clients such as Intel and Eben Films, the locations range from the ethereal night-scapes of the Trona Pinnacles in California's Mojave Desert, to the West coast of Ireland, to just outside my window and inside it too. It's not quite David Lean, but it's not NEIGHBOURS either. I hope you enjoy it." Grant Wakefield Cameraman / Editor ............................................................ ............................................SENDELICA: Sendelica are a three piece band based in West Wales comprising of Pete Bingham on guitars and electronics, Glenda Pescado on bass and Paul Fields on drums. Surely the first Welsh band to sign to a Russian label. Sendelica came to the attention of RAIG Records in 2006 through their self released debut album ‘Entering The Rainbow Light’. This led to Sendelica inking a contract with the Moscow-based psyche specialists and their first release on RAIG Records hit the streets in August 2007. The album, entitled ‘Spaceman Bubblegum and Other Weird Tales from the Mercury Mind’ (Cat RAIG CD026) received rave reviews not only in the UK but also Europe and USA. Records (Cat RAIG CD026)....’The groups arsenal of sound is quite impressive: the hypnotic pulse of Can, the impressionistic atmospherics of Pink Floyd, the motorized proto-punk of Neu, the space patrol guitar pyrotechnics of Hendrix and the otherworldy ambiences of The Orb. All of this and more pervades every track in Spaceman Bubblegum’.....AURAL INNOVATIONS, USA 2008 ...’they totally blow your mind with the absolute guitar tour de force on Indrid Cold. Check out the crazy solo’s Bingham tosses out on this twelve minute epic over Pescado’s thick and rubbery bass lines and the busy work of Fields behind the kit’.... SEA OF TRANQUILITY, USA 2007 ...’Elaborate and tasty impro sounds, combining elements of psychedelia, seventies hard rock and dub elements.... they create agile improvisations that work all the time’... DISAGREEMENT, LUXEMBOURG 2007 ....’Indrid Cold, twelve minutes of guitar heaven, Pete Bingham laying the universe to waste as he romps across the fretboard, a solid and inspired rythmn section providing a perfect platform for the sonic wizardry that soars overhead...demonstrating everything that is good about this band, playful, spacey, dream laden and able to rock out with the best of them’...PTOLMAIC TERRASCOPE, UK 2007 ...’A guitar driven sound-scape that instantly transports you to a world of swirling colours and non stop freaky dancing that only girls in mini skirts can undertake. Sendelica produce a sound that has heart and tonnes of it’.... GLASSWERK, UK 2007 ... ‘We’re talking well played, well produced imaginative instrumental guitar based psyche/space rock with a healthy retro feel to it’...
