Sounds Like: john coffey's music is surprising in both its silence as in its adrenaline, musically aggresive and beautiful in its sweet sounds. Songs use easy, atmospheric lows, to build up to pounding highs which are poured out over the unsuspected listener. Or as Dutch national press mentioned about a john coffey release: "'White Like The New Sky' is without a doubt one of the most beautiful independent productions I have ever seen."
The band takes the energy of a band such as MewithoutYou, the atmosphere of British heavy rockers Oceansize and puts it in a fresh and surprising mix. Second EP 'White Like The New Sky' got unanimous positive responses from Dutch magazines like FRET, LiveXS and 3voor12. The track 'This View is Breathtaking' got repeated airplay on national radiostation KinkFM and the video was well received by the press. Furthermore, Dutch popmagazine 3voor12 chose john coffey to be 'Hollandse Nieuwe', the title for new and upcoming talents. Now the band is preparing to record its first full length album in November 2008 at the renowned Mailmen Studios (a.o. Face Tomorrow, Spirit That Guides Us).
john coffey has gained a lot of live experience on the Dutch stages (like Hedon Zwolle, Paard van Troje Den Haag, Bevrijdingsfestival Wageningen, Goudvishal and Willemeen Arnhem, Kelder Amersfoort, etc.) and also by playing with (inter-)national bands like Blindside, The Chariot, The Juliana Theory, Green Lizard and The Spirit That Guides Us. Internationally, the band toured in France, the Czech Republic and Germany and played renowned festivals such as Freakstock, Flevo Festival and Peacedog.
