About Me

The More Things Change – The More They Remain The Same!

Coming Full Circle to DOUBLE JUSTICE.

Marc Demers grew up in New England and began playing the guitar when he was 7 years old. When he was 15 his family moved to southwest Florida where he immediately joined a high school rock band. “I had played in front of an audience before, but mostly solo stuff with an acoustic guitar. From the first time I stepped on a stage with electric guitars, drums, and amplifiers, and saw the way people danced and yelled and screamed as we rocked, I was hooked.”
Mike McTighe grew up in southern California during the 60’s. He began playing drums publicly at a young age. Over the years he played with many musicians in many bands, in front of some very large crowds.
In August of 2004 Marc moved to Wickenburg Arizona to escape the hustle and bustle of the Phoenix metropolitan area. He and Mike met within a few weeks of his moving there. They started getting together at Marc’s home studio to write and record original, experimental, music.

After decades of playing in various rock cover bands, it was a welcomed change for them to be able to focus on writing, and experimenting with a wide variety of styles and instrumentation.
“As much as we both love performing, it was nice to just take some time off and experiment with making music that we wanted to make. It was our own music so we could do it any way we wanted to. We didn’t have to be concerned with fitting into a certain genre, whether or not it was acceptable to club owners, or if people could dance to it and we could hold a crowd.”
Matt Burch had also just recently moved to Wickenburg and Marc and Mike heard him singing karaoke at a local watering hole one night. Every time Matt got up to sing, people’s jaws just hit the floor. Soon the three of them started throwing around the idea of putting something together. Another guitar player and a bass player joined the trio and LOOSE CANNON was formed.

The band played its first gig in Congress Arizona on October 22, 2005. Right out of the gate, the public’s reaction to LOOSE CANNON was phenomenal. Over the next two years the band enjoyed considerable success playing every weekend in several cities around the state, developing a decent following and a great reputation.
At its prime, LOOSE CANNON was a six-piece southern rock cover band.
But then members started leaving for this reason or that, some were replaced, some weren’t. Marc ended up quitting the band in the beginning of 2007, frustrated with the direction it seemed to be headed in. Mike and the other two remaining members tried to keep it going as a three piece, but the spark and excitement had long since dwindled, and so Dec 31, 2007 was their farewell performance.
After leaving LOOSE CANNON Marc played bass for another local Wickenburg cover band for about seven or eight months.
“It was nice not having to worry about booking gigs, trying to arrange practices around everyone’s schedules, promoting, or keeping the set list updated. All I had to do was show up and play and let someone else worry about all that behind the scenes stuff.”
But Marc’s first love is rhythm guitar, so he left that band and formed DIAGONALLY BACKWARDS in October of 2007.

Once again, the reaction the band received right from the start was more than anticipated and the band booked up solid for several months almost immediately. Unfortunately, the excitement was short lived. Once the initial newness of the band wore off, it just turned into the same ole same ole, and the guys got burned out. Marc decided to pull the plug on DIAGONALLY BACKWARDS after only six months.
“Once I started seeing the same old tired issues popping up that I had seen in other bands, I lost interest in the project. Guys not showing up for practices, showing up late, unprepared, and unenthusiastic for gigs, arguing about every little detail like what songs we should or shouldn’t play, how much money we should charge, or what clubs we should or shouldn’t play, griping that this person plays too loud, how come he gets to sing two songs and I only sing one, etc, etc, etc.”
So now, after four years of crisscrossing musical paths, Mike and Marc are back together again, right where they started. The original idea for DOUBLE JUSTICE was to come up with a completely brand new fresh set list. Unfortunately, gigs were booked and the guys couldn’t get together to practice as often as they wanted, so they threw together a quick set list that consisted of cover tunes they had all played a thousand times before.
With the recent departure of the bass player, Marc, Mike, and Leland have decided to not book anymore gigs and instead focus on going back to recording original music, writing new songs, and learning new cover songs.
“We really want to get away from playing the same old standard three chord classic rock songs that almost every cover band does – to death. We’re hoping to break away from being limited to just the traditional classic rock/southern rock cover tunes, and experiment with things we’ve all been wanting to do for years but never had time. The focus is now on developing a fresh new style and sound rather than just getting out and gigging every weekend.
