The Rooph

The Rats of October Philharmonics out January 29

About Me

It takes an enormous commitment and a huge musical heart to throw over 120 concerts in barely four years. The Rooph has both. The concert audience in Trondheim was one of the first to experience this fairly quick, seeing that The Rooph used little time to unofficially be crowned one of the city’s best live bands.
And they still are, but something has happened along the way. Last year the bands old guitarist took a bow and left the band. The man to fill the void was Ole Jorgen Modalen and with him, The Rooph got a real make-over, not just within the line-up but also within their musical tones. When their single “Oh!” got launched to radio stations all over the country this summer, it was without a doubt a different The Rooph that struck people’s ears. This resulted in a huge amount of time played on both national (P3) and regional channels (RadioAdressa).
The Rooph has left the smoke-filled retro rock basements behind, and are now breathing in the fresh air of west coast pop and alternative rock. A more successful make over will be hard to find. The musical horizon is expanded, where everything from a foggy and rain filled London meets California’s sunny coast. And at the same time one has managed to obtain the live nerves throughout. The Rooph has without doubt been given a new spring, and the enthusiasm within and around The Rooph camp has never been this high.
This summer they found their way to Paris where the making of the music video “Oh!” took place; the video is now rocking the national TV station NRK2. During September they made a trip to London to do a showcase, first stop the Metro and then Betsey Trotswood, followed by October month when their home country got awarded with a mini tour.
”The Rats of October Philharmonics” will be released on Dead Letter Records 29.01, and is 11 songs with lots of references and massive sound, Sweden`s Fireside meets Britain`s Placebo outside a dirty club in New York. ”Lazy Angels” is picked as the single to front the album.
The Rooph is one of few Norwegian bands who thinks in larger scale, and looks outside of Norway for a career. They will tour Norway in February, with a kickoff at by:Larm, Scandinavia`s largest music conference, and in May they will tour England.
