Profile GeneratorMorrah (named after The Groke from Tove Jansson's Moomintroll books, by anglicizing the original Swedish name of this character, M..rran) was formed on 16 of December 2000 in St. Petersburg, Russia, by Alexander Dovzhikov (bass/vocals), M.F. Hobbit (guitar), Oleg (guitar), and Dmitry Varlamov (drums). First thing, the musicians began line-up reorganization. In a couple of months the band decided to hire a separate bass player, and Vadim Ryabinin took this place. After a while, as a result of impartial observation and some intrigues, Oleg left the band. Vadim took over the guitar (incidentally, a more familiar instrument to him) and Nikita was invited as a bassist, not to hold in long but to be soon replaced by Mikhail Karavanov. The musicians had been "stewing in the juice of others" for quite a long time, covering the songs of Paradise Lost, Kiss, Six Feet Under, and Diamond Head until one day they realized they could show a quite good team-work and began to write their own stuff......However, they did not succeed much because of the split in their style understanding and preferences and as a result was Vadim quitting the band. From the outset, the band's style was regarded as melodic death, but later it became clear that the band members understood these two words differently. It was an epic milestone in Morrah's history when experienced guitarist Alexander Aleksanichev aka "Deada" had joined the band. He'd started his musical career with Corpsegrinder (death-grind) and had played for two years with the once-famous band Exhumation (melodic death). Finally, the Morrah's style was defined as death metal. During August-December 2002, the musicians composed some new songs, worked in the studio on their demo record and, above all, successfully introduced themselves to the musical stage of St. Petersburg.Within the very first year of their existence the band managed to build up a concert programme, which stood piloting in various clubs.
Starting from the end of the year 2002, Morrah played more than fifty concerts including gigs with such bands as PUNGENT STENCH, VADER, IMPALED NAZARENE, etc. Mid-tempo, swaying death metal with highly technical performance (all the musicians have had studio and live experience before joining the band) at this time permits the band to have solo gigs in Saint Petersburg.
Within the short period of their existence, Morrah managed to have several short tours across Russia. The fall of 2005, will be marked by their touring across the Independent States of former Soviet Union.
The beginning of 2004 saw the coming out of their demo called Russian Maniaxxx, which was recorded at Astia Studio (Finland). The demo was released through Russian Pyrolagnia Records who specialize in death and grind (www.pyrolagnia.ru)
The demo contains several tracks that have been performed earlier within their concert programme.
At this time Morrah is practically ready with their new material for the second full-length album, which will be recorded during the second part of 2005.
The first full-length album "Experiment in Blood" will be released this year (autumn 2005). It was recorded during summer-autumn 2004, in Neva studio (St. Petersburg)-quite a famous studio in Russia). Mixing and mastering was done in Navaho Hut (Moscow).
