Next Friday was born in September of '05 out of three kids who could barely play their instruments, shortly after their first practices they played their first show at the rec. center and recorded a demo. the demo consisted of four original songs; Darkness, Homesick, Melancholy, and This Morning. Shows were being played two months apart after this and to very small crowds. That is until Broken Strings 2, a local music and arts festival. the band had already acquired a second bassist and sounded better than ever. Shows started to come in every few weeks and the music started changing from blues and classic rock, to alternative. Some of this may be due to the fact that a new bassist had been added to the band. Many new ideas had been sparked up and brought to the forefront of the bands live performances. Next Friday was almost a jam band now, with influences like Zeppelin, Phish, Wolf Parade, and Nirvana. But there were alot of differences between the members at this point, so one of the members was sent off and once again, the band was without a bassist. Daniel Carlson; a friend from school, joined the band shortly after. The music once again was changing, this time into progressive hard rock. Next Friday never sounded better and were getting offers for shows every other weekend. They recorded a new demo with three new songs and one old track (seen on homepage), over the summer Mike (guitarist, lead singer) cooked up five new songs for the band to play, the first show with these new songs was a failure, but soon the songs grew on the band and they were a part of the catalogue. Wild Oak records hosted a battle of the bands in March of '07 and six bands were chosen to face off against one another, Next friday took home the second place prize of fifty dollars. the band was once again growing and playing more shows. they started playing gigs every weekend and Mike was writing more than ever. The rec. Center was a primitive place to play shows for the band, every other saturday Next friday played a show there. In November of '08 They entered another Battle of the bands, also hosted by Wild Oak Records and took home third. After another bunch of shows over the past five months, the band started to grow apart and Max (drums) quit the band. We are currently looking for another drummer so we can continue to play and write more songs, if you're interested, please contact Mike, (530) 680-1220. Thanks for always supporting our band and being there through thick and thin.

Sounds Like: “There is something about music that keeps its distance even at the moment that it engulfs us. It is at the same time outside and away from us and inside and part of us. In one sense it dwarfs us, and in another we master it. We are led on and on, and yet in some strange way we never lose control.”
