Mad Staring Eyes on SellaBand
MAD STARING EYES are a 4-piece from London. In 2005 their punk energy, pop melodies and bitter-sweet lyrics won them the John Peel award for the UK's best new band. They subsequently stormed the Peel Stage at Glastonbury Festival in front of thousands of screaming fans and were invited to perform at the SXSW festival in Texas.
With their own studio and label, Retina Records, Mad Staring Eyes have since released an EP and several singles and continue to gig extensively, playing their own headline shows as well as supporting the likes of The Subways, The Automatic and The Fratellis.
Mad Staring Eyes toured Europe in December promoting their debut album, which will be released in June this year, to coincide with their trip to the NXNE festival in Toronto.

"This is indie rock with a pop flavour and should certainly put an end to Mad Staring Eyes days of being a well kept secret" Room Thirteen
"Previous winners of Mr Eavis's coveted best unsigned band award have often gone on to grander things, most notably Muse and The Subways. Again it seems those in power down at Worthy Farm were on the money and now that the Mad Staring Eyes have reached debut EP time we're in for something a bit special.
It floats and soars through its 7 tracks with such effortless perfection so as that you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd slipped into a glorious new world where Michael Eavis is PM and Mad Staring Eyes tracks are played through loudspeakers in our towns and cities. Impeccable humour peppers the lyrics throughout resulting in a sultry mix of wit and sex talk that'll leave you desperate for a post-coital cigarette. This release is a big beautiful mess of samples and sounds set to make you dance, cry, laugh and sing all at once. The Mad Staring Eyes are the essential band of the moment." Transparent
"They've done it again! Mad Staring Eyes have captured that late 80's sound. In just under three minutes we have something of a tight, fast-paced, infectious anti-love song [Talk Dirty single] that we can sing our hearts out to (and perhaps even relate to). The melodic guitar riff is perfectly played out from an instrument that sounds like the strings haven't been changed since 1987. Alex Jay's voice adds impact to the subject matter by the way in which spiteful words are spat out during the to-the-point verses, yet sound so desperate during the chorus. This is tougher than tough love baby, and it's all wrapped up in one brilliant single." Maps
