Oscar Giunta es uno de los principales artistas de jazz de la
actualidad y viene siendo principal protagonista de la escena de la ultima decada y media.- Nace en San José, Guaymallén, Mendoza, en 1976 y es criado y estimulado en un entorno familiar musical y artÃstico en gral. Comienza a tocar baterÃa a los dos años de edad, a instancias de sus familiares. Se radica en Buenos Aires en el año 1980.- Dueño de una de las carreras mas prolÃficas en los últimos años de la música Argentina, es no solo el artista mas requerido por los
artistas más representativos de la música Argentina, sino que también su arte ha comenzado a cruzar las fronteras, grabando y girando por Europa, Usa, y América Latina, convocado por grandes artistas de otras latitudes.
Cuenta además con su carrera solista, etapa que iniciara en breve con la grabación de su primer álbum como único lÃder, en donde no
solo dejara plasmado su arte baterÃstico, sino también su faceta de
compositor, arreglador, multi-instrumentista, y productor.-Solo recorrer algunos de los nombres de los músicos y grupos con los que ha tocado, bastan para dar cuenta del papel preponderante de Oscar Giunta, dentro de los principales proyectos y propuestas artÃsticas de la última década y media, en el ámbito del jazz y de la música en gral.- Algunos de los nombres que aparecen en la vasta lista, son: LuÃs
Salinas, Javier Malosetti, Walter Malosetti, Quinteto Urbano (grupo que Giunta co- lidero junto al trompetista Juan Cruz de Urquiza), Adrián Iaies, Diego Urcola, Oscar Feldman, Guillermo Romero, Ricardo Cavalli, Ernesto Jodos, Ernesto Snajer, Verónica Condomi, Ricardo Lew, Horacio Larumbe, Santiago Giacobbe y un largÃsimo etc. Con ellos ha tocado, girado y o grabado en infinidad de oportunidades y situaciones.- En el plano internacional, Giunta ha tocado, girado o grabado, junto
a artistas como: Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Philip
Catherine, Danilo Pérez, Paquito De Rivera, entre muchos otros.-También cabe mencionar el concierto de Quinteto Urbano en el mismo teatro, ante un lleno total de concurrencia, giras nacionales junto al trÃo de Javier Malosetti, giras europeas y grabaciones junto al South American Jazz Project (una de las agrupaciones mas relevantes y singulares del panorama jazzÃstico europeo, según la critica especializada), grabaciones junto al trompetista Diego Urcola, de las cuales resultan la edición del álbum "Soundances" (nominado al Grammy en la categorÃa "Mejor álbum de jazz latino"), la grabación y edición del álbum "Las Tardecitas de Minton`s " junto al trÃo de Adrián Iaies (en este caso, nominado al "Latin Grammy Award", en la misma categorÃa), y la grabación del álbum "Luis Salinas y amigos en España" (álbum también recientemente nominado al Grammy, grabado en Barcelona), giras junto al gran guitarrista europeo Philip Catherine, etc.- También ha participado como baterista del ciclo musical televisivo de mayor rating de la Argentina, "música para Soñar ", que se emitÃa por TELEFE.- En enero del 2008 fue invitado al Drums Festival de Panamá, compartiendo escenario con el legendario Billy Cobham. has become a main personality in the jazz scene in the past decade and half.Oscar Giunta holds one of the most prolific careers of the last years
in the Argentinean music scene, he is not only the most requested artist by Argentinean most renowned musicians, but has now begun to cross over with his music, touring and performing with great success around Europe, the United States and Latin America. He is actually beginning his solo career with the appearance of his first solo album, in which not only we will appreciate his skills as a master drummer but also as a composer, mixer, producer and multi instrumental artist.
Giunta will present this new material in his upcoming tours in several
cities in Argentina as well as in an international level.Oscar Giunta belongs to a traditional musical and artistic family from
Mendoza (Argentina). He was born in San Jose, Guaymallen in 1976. He started playing drums when he was only two years old. In 1983, with seven years old, he makes his professional debut as a drummer in Channel 11 of Buenos Aires (Telefe).
After this, he has the experience of playing with the saxophonist Andres Boiarsky (side-man of Paquito de Rivera).When he was eleven, he takes his first formal classes with Roberto
"Junior" Cesari.
While he is in secondary school he also studies music in the conservatory "Juan Pedro Esnaola" in Buenos Aires. There, he studies classic and shymphonic percussion with Pablo La Porta, percussionist of the Colon Theatre.When he was thirteen, he played with the great pianist Horacio Larumbe in a series of jazz concerts in Buenos Aires.From then on, he has been the centre of an Argentine jazz movement
carrying it to other world latitudes.
He has played with Luis Salinas, Javier Malosetti, Walter Malosetti,
Quinteto Urbano, Adrian Iaies, Diego Urcola, Oscar Feldman, Guillermo Romero, Ricardo Cavalli, Ernesto Jodos, Ernesto Snajer, Veronica Condomi, Ricardo Lew, Santiago Giacobbe, etc.Internationally, Giunta has played , travelled and recorded with
artists like Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Phillip Catherine, Danilo Perez, Paquito De Rivera, among others.Some of his last most important activities are Paquito De Rivera`s
concert in the Colon Theatre in Buenos Aires together with the theatre`s philarmonic orchestra celebrating De Rivera`s 50 years with music, Quinteto Urbano`s concert in the same
theatre, national tours with Javier Malosetti`s trio, European tours
and recordings with South American Jazz Project.He has recorded with trumpetist Diego Urcola the album "Soundances" nominated to the Grammy`s as the best latin jazz album; the recording and edition of the album "Las Tardecitas de Minton`s" with Adrian Iaies` trio nominated as "Latin Grammy Award" in the same category, and the recording of the album "Luis Salinas y amigos en Espana", also nominated to the Grammy`s.At present, Oscar Giunta is member of Javier Malosetti`s trio and he is also participating in the TV musical cycle "Musica para Sonar" TELEFE.Oscar Giunta has been requested by maestro Lalo Schiffrin to perform in September 2006 in the Luna Park Stadium in Buenos Aires with this city Philharmonic Orchestra and Jazz Band. He will be touring with this show at a national level through Argentina.Oscar Giunta present work highlights his own Quartet, where he takes
charge of the drums as well as the role of composer, mixer and producer.With his Quartet he will be performing several shows as well as touring through Argentina, Chile and Spain. At the same time he will be recording his first solo album.
