About Me

Song writers, John Michael Knowles (vocals) and Nelson Blanton (guitars) have joined forces to create Alvarado- a distinctive modern country band combines their own brand of "today's country" with the singing Telecaster sound from Bakersfield; popularized by Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. Throw in a bit of the traditional feel from artists such as Ray Price, Faron Young, even a little Tex-Mex, and you have a unique blend that audiences are craving.

Their image rivals legendary icons like Willie, Waylon, and Paycheck. Their unique sound and intense stage presence puts them in a league of their own. Alvarado has the songs and the sound to capture today's radio audience and a live presence that can't be matched. Each member brings a unique musical perspective to the band, drawing inspiration from their small town upbringings, the hills of New Mexico, the flat land of Oklahoma, the bayou in Mississippi, and the farm lands of southern Maryland. Alavarado is a group of extraordinary artists who have faith in their music and their band. Listen. You'll understand why.

Sounds Like: "the first time I heard this band it was a revelation!" Twangzine Magazine

"not since Dwight Yoakum was signed out of the Palamino, all those years ago, has a local country act caused so much excitement" Music Connection Magazine

"their music is a mix of country and a little rock-Hot Rod Honky Tonk"producer Dusty Wakeman

"the undulating rasgueado rhythm and Knowles' minor-key velvety vocals make "Hard to Hold" seem like Ravel's "Bolero" next to the anemic barroom cha-cha standard "Neon Moon." the Los Angeles Times

"one of the tightest, most entertaining quartets playing 'round town, in any genre."the Pasadena Weekly

"one of the most united bands to surface within country music in some time. All of their songs are written by all of the members of the band and each realizes that one is no more significant than the other three. Vowing to remain true to their early vision and to each other, Alvarado seem poised for lasting success." All Music Guide
